Global Audio Boost and Normalization

I want a global audio boost in Plex and a general volume normalizer. The max volume is half that of other apps.
I propose a little slider with a plus and minus button with the DBs in the middle.

Audio Boost:
[-] 10db [+]

It doesn’t matter if you want it negative 30db or plus 60db, I just want the option to boost it globally. And don’t even with that “loud”, “louder” bullhog, give us an actual number and some outrageous ranges.

PLEASE!!! We need this!

Yes, please! This would be great.

+1, please add.

Yes please. Plex for some reason when transcoded has one of the worst perfomances when it comes to audio boosting . On all of the devices I need to turn the volume a lot. As much as I love plex (best streaming app by far) the team needs to improve it. I used to run emby which I found it had the best audio boosting mechanics.

Just bumping this - wish we could set this at least on each device - or at the very least, if you set it for one item, and the next episode plays, it keeps the same playback settings. It’s annoying to have to stop playback, go into playback settings, set the audio boost, and have it play for every episode.

wow its been a ride reading these threads about the same audio issues i have on my Samsung TV with Plex…
such a great app otherwise but we need the audio boost/normalisation options as well as force stereo on the server settings

the product managers are dumb AF for not fixing this and prioritizing this issue.

Pretty please, volume is just not loud enough in Plex no matter what I do, in other apps it’s fine.

It maybe useful to break it into multiple pieces… Gain, for the a volume boost and Compression for a volume limiter.

Interstellar (2014) would be a perfect example of using both. Crank the gain up so the speaking parts are heard and cap the overall volume with compression so those super loud sound effects and music don’t blow your ear drums or speakers…

Another thing to consider is not necessarily making this change on PMS, but the player. Speakers on a laptop are different quality than an iPad, or a Samsung TV, or a Roku TV. It would be better to be controlled on the Player level.

Also a web browser player be able to lower the volume of the show to not impact other windows sounds that may need to be heard.

This needs to happen for this Media Server to be top dog.

I love coming back and seeing the pain in this thread. I’m just here to keep this alive.

Adding this really would be great. I do find that when using the Apple TV client the volume is very low sometimes.

I love Plex, but I’m truly tired of having to turn my TV way up when watching it, and then have to remember to turn it back down before doing anything else.

Still an ongoing issue, and I think got worse recently. Youtube volume vs. Plex is astoundingly different and disruptive when changing. Obviously, I voted.

i don’t suppose there’s any way to use the VLC player in the Plex Android app

+1 Please add an audio normalization option. It would be great to keep my TV volume consistent for all media.

Please add this. I’m tired of having to re-encode all my files manually for the server. A server side option to do it all automatically like the thumbnails and intro/credits detection would be great

Hi all! Nice request thread here. I am not sure how feasible some of this is due to us not having any control over the quality of audio on a server. Not saying it isn’t possible in some way, but a super low potato audio track with a ramped up gain… is still just a louder potato noise being played. With that being said, there are some efforts to do some audio normalization on content we serve, specifically to prevent super-loud ads which nobody likes, so maybe that tech might be applicable in some way here. While it isn’t currently on the roadmap, I will add this to the list of currently unscheduled projects that need some additional review. Thanks for the comments here! :plexheart:

It’s not clear to me if this thread is asking for a server-side fix or a client-side fix. I’ll vote for client-side; I need to boost the volume of already-downloaded content on the plane…

For those who are streaming from a Plex server, you can use the Infuse player (free) on some platforms that can connect to your Plex server and has a Volume Boost option up to 300%.
