Anyone gotten UFC to scan correctly

Im trying to add those big, numbered events. Under TV-shows. I know its not really a show, but its on TV and its where it should be added in my opinion. Not getting great results. Checked thetvdb but its not there. Not a biggie but would be nice if it was possible. Will be grateful for advice if its even possible.

Thx

dunno if it is one of these ( i don't watch UFC) http://thetvdb.com/?string=ufc&searchseriesid=&tab=listseries&function=Search

else maybe you can just do like these guys do for MLB series. as long as you have Local assets enabled it should work

Its none of those on thetvdb. I do have local media assets enabled and I have tried adding these manually but I have had trouble with the scanner later re-naming the “epidodes”, thinking its that TV-show, the Ultimate Fighter. Anyways, I think i may have just forgotten to lock the fields after manually entering them.

You brought me back on track I think. Thanks a bunch!

TheTVDB rules state that they will not index sporting events. They specifically include UFC/WWE type events. I’m with you, Rockstar, in wishing it worked as a normal TV show. But it doesn’t. For me it’s NBD because I don’t keep the PPVs long term.

if it is not working in your regular tv section you could make another tv section but use the Personal Media Shows agent that will only use your local metadata. call the section Sports or something

You can use TheMovieDB scanner to pick up UFC main events.  Create a new section for UFC so it will be separate from your movies, choose TheMovieDB as scanner, and you're done.

Believe me when I say this has been an area I've been trying to get done correctly for awhile. Since TVRage no longer works correctly, yes- the movie database does supply artwork and a brief (very brief) headline with it. Usually just says main event, date and location. Also a word of advice- the files have to be named pretty precisely. More so than movies. If you do this, movie database will fill it every time.

TVrage agent does not work at all, as it was purposely removed ages ago because it never worked right in the first place.

This isn't correct. There was a fork that worked well for quite a while and the plex agent github site has been making updates to it as recently as a few weeks ago. However now there's a bug- It works when you install it, but the _init_.py file is rewritten once you restart pms. From what I'm told this is something they're currently working to resolve.

Hi Radagast, how do you name your UFC files? Like this: UFC.171.mp4 ?

@Radagast - agreed, this is the best (only?) way to setup UFC events currently. TVrage, (now available under the movie database agent under TV) does contain the information but because they set it up as a TV show with seasons/episode numbers it never works properly.

Curious- do you typically get the metadata for UFC events from TMDB automatically (like movies, tv shows etc)? I'd say 75% of the time I dont, but once I go in and manually search it with the TMDB, it's found immediately. No idea why.

I was just going to make a new thread on how to catalog UFC or Sporting events because if I name my files UFC.170.mp4, the Plex system thinks its season 1 episode 70.  I will try what meatball suggest and that is to go through them each one and manually TMDB.

Im curious if I find a program to set metadata to all my UFC, and other MMA content that I have, would Plex pick up that content and properly place my items?  And what agent do I want to use for this?

I've looked but haven't seen an MMA database with an api. Be nice to create a metadata agent dedicated to this. TMDB has the event posters but the event info is usually pretty lacking

That will do it. For some reason it has to be close to perfect for UFC events. like you said, 'UFC.170.mp4'. Or 'UFC Fight Night: Blah vs Blah'. You can't have any video details in the name, ie- 720p or HDTV etc. Then TMDB has a better chance of picking it up. It's not plex, it's the agent. It's weird because movies and tv shows from TMDB dont have to be named so precisely.

so its not plex naming my videos "season 1 episode 70", interesting.  Well I've tried to manually input metadata into my videos via VLC and I'm wondering how do I get plex or which plex agent would read taht embedded metadata?

Sorry I missed this previously- you have to setup the UFC section under Movies, not as a TV show. That's why it's looking for season and episode number.

If you wanted to set it up as a tv show, you would need to use TVrage as your primary agent (TMDB doesnt have them organized as season/episodes) and you would need to setup a separate show for PPV's and Fight Night cards. It's a pain to do this and ultimately doesn't make a ton of sense as you would have 'UFC 184.S18E06' as your naming structure. Plus rage lacks for ufc artwork.

IMO it makes more sense to setup them up as stand alone events, and for that you would need to create a UFC section under movies, and use TMDB as your primary agent (make sure it's on top). Hope that makes sense.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense.  Your right, it sounds like a pain.  I got Bellator stuff too.  Sounds like a job I'll be doing a lot of modifications myself.   By the way, you mentioned TVRage agent, where do I get a TVRage agent?

Yea I have some bellator as well.

Re: tvrage plugin- You can grab it on github. Look under the ‘plexinc’ plugins. It will add it under your TMDB profile in TV if I remember correctly (away from the house).

Just drag/drop it in your plugin folder in Plex media server. Restart pms and it will be there.

you ever get this setup?

Im still on the lookout for a solution to solve this effectively. I find myself entering information into the TMDB site because it's not available until a day or two after the fight.

be nice to have this work as smoothly as movies and tv.
