Plex Problem

Server Version#: 4.87.2

I just set up a Plex server on a Hyper-V VM running Ubuntu for our school. The server is not open to the outside world, just on our LAN. (local IP with no public NAT) I need to restrict the content that teachers see (and will be sharing with class) to JUST the videos that I have added to our library. (No streaming TV, Pluto, Hul, Netflix, etc - NOTHING else).

I locked down the server, and when I log in I see nothing (which is good. Because I haven’t added any media yet) and there are no users with who I’ve shared library access.

When my assistant goes to the same IP Address http://10.1.3.219:32400/ it lets him login and he can see LOTS of movies and TV shows.

How did he even login if there are no accounts and it is not shared with anyone yet?
How is he seeing content that I’ve disabled?
How do I prevent this?

Any regular account has access to our Online Streaming Sources content. They can turn them off for their own accounts if they want to at https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources

Those sources have nothing to do with the server. Though a version of the web app is bundled with the server, is it not the server.

You can only disable it for your self and your own managed users. ( from the same link above)

So if I set up a managed user and had teachers log in with that, they would see only the content that I am curating on our server? And no streaming services?

Yes but there can only be a max of 14 managed accounts (assuming no other users your in Plex Home), not sure how many teachers you have.
