“Removed Plex account -> Xbox Live account linking requirement”
That sounds like it should mean we don’t have to sign in to Xbox Live to launch the new Plex app?

They way it works now I can link Plex app to all my accounts on XBox One. I think this what they mean by linking requirements.
You’d think, wouldn’t you.
I updated my PMS and tried. Same as previously; as before when we use another Xbox profile we are prompted to sign in to Plex again.

You should only have to link when you sign in with a different user. I’ve tried it with managed users and it works well. I signed in xbox with my xbox account, linked to plex. Then signed into my wifes xbox account, and linked to plex. So now anytime I go to either xbox account it shows our own plex logins. If I went to another xbox account I would have to link again.
Yes, but the previous xbox live account still has access, is still linked.
I have xbox one with 3 accounts, I’m the owner and the console is set to family mode or w/e it’s called if that matters.
With old application I’ve logged user 1 on xbox, linked Plex, switched to user 2 linked to Plex, switched back to user 1 Plex wasn’t connected anymore. Only 1 user per console could be linke with Plex.
With new application I’ve logged user 1 on xbox, linked Plex, switched to user 2 linked to Plex, switched back to user 1 Plex is still linked. The only “thing” is that under devices I have 1 xbox for each account:
That’s…ugly to think about, but I suppose it’s an improvement.
I hope someone will correct me if I’m wrong but that’s the way xbox works. You can’t save your credentials for each user on console or can you? Instead each user needs to log in once. It makes sense for example for Youtube, where each user is linked to own account. Makes less sense for Amazon Prime or Netlix in which case you are most likely having 1 account per household.
I don’t know with this Plex, I’ll test. And I may have to take back my previous “it’s an improvement” remark.
Wasn’t the workaround under the previous version to “create one Plex.tv account for each household member, share the server from the main plex.tv account to the other accounts, have each Xbox live user sign in to Plex using their plex.tv account”. This sounds the same, but perhaps without the sharing requirement? Dunno, that’s the testing bit. If so it’s a mild improvement, but still requires me having to make plex.tv account for a child in violation of the terms.
I suppose I was hoping it was verging on the Netflix (I haven’t used Amazon prime) method. I’ve signed Netflix in on the Xbox with my Netflix credentials, and now any Xbox Live account signed in to my Xbox can now open Netflix (and once signed in they can pick their ‘user’ from the Netflix app). It’s simple, and it works. I think it’s been explained before that Plex aren’t allowed (rather than “can’t” the message is that Microsoft wont let them) to offer similar functionality, however the Netflix style account linking works well, and I guess the reality is until Plex has the same function it’s going to feel inferior.
I believe there was workaround like this. I was using old version for very short time one of the reasons was that twisted way to sign in. To be honest the new version seems as no go for me as well but it has nothing to do with authentication method.
Overall I think it’s an improvement over the previous one.
