XBox Plex Sign in lost

My wife and I both use the Xbox and also Plex on it. We love it.

What we don’t love is going to launch Plex, and it giving the web address to re-link out account. Basically if I do it on my account it works fine and signs in automatically. BUT, when my wife goes to her account, it also asks for the link address. If she fixes it, mine is now broken. It seems like I can only have ONE person signed in with Plex.

I hope this isn’t by design. All of this is on the same Xbox One console.

You can only have one account signed-in per device.

So your wife or yourself could have an additional managed user on either accounts to get around this.

I’m sure that’s how it works but don’t quote me on that one.

This should work. Are you using Plex accounts or managed users? I’ve got it working with managed users. I log in to Xbox and my Plex account is active. When my wife logs in to Xbox and opens Plex, her managed user account is active.

I’m not sure. I login to my Live ID on the XBox and when I launch Plex, it immediately asks for the https://www.plex.tv/link/ with the code to link it. If my wife used her profile on the XBox, it them asks her the exact same thing.

It seems only one will work at a time. The link URL obviously comes up even before I can pick a “user” in Plex.

Hurmm… maybe this is related: https://status.plex.tv/incidents/vt2zblxtbpfs

Correct, so you need to create a managed user for yourself or your wife.

Hopefully that was it. Seems there was a bit of an outage with linking at the same time you were having problems. Is it all working now? I’m curious if it works for multiple users with both plex accounts or managed users. Hopefully it works for both.

My wife said it asked her to link again today on both our accounts. I am out of town, but I don’t know how to fix this. I have kids that use Plex as well. I just expect people to get prompted for what Plex user they want to use, not their account with Plex entirely.

You should be able to link remotely. Just go to plex.tv/link and enter the 4 digit code your wife sees on the screen.

Fixed my wife. Now each of my three kids also wants to use Plex, but get the /link thing as well. Will this ever end?!?!

Sorry for jumping on this thread, but I have the same issue, but I am not sure what you mean by “Managed User account” I am the only Plex pass holder and I share my account with my wife and kids exclusivelyt so they can have their own “On Deck” - I set this up a while ago and they all had to create standard Plex accounts, whihc I then shared my libraries with. Is this “managed users”? At the moment we are working around this by me making sure I am the one signed in to the xbox and then Plex is launched and each person can then choose their own Plex account. But this is not ideal because mine is the only XBox account with a payment method attached and I do not want to leave myself logged in whilst my kids log on. Yet when my wife goes to her xbox sign in, and launches Plex, she gets the “link account” screen. Am I doing something wrong or misunderstanding?

Of course they do. You need to create managed user accounts for your children as well. It’s the only way or it’s individual devices for each master account.

As long as your wife has a managed account under your account, she shouldn’t be getting such a problem. On your wife’s XBOX, sign-in with your account as well (plex account) and then she’ll be able to access her managed account you created under your account. Yes, you will need to link up the console to your account, it’s part of the process but once it’s done, it’s all sorted. You have to do this with every individual device that has a plex app.

OK, I think I have this now, but it is a total change to the way I had it before and not even sure I had “managed User” as an option when I first did this. At this moment in time my wife and kids are “Existing Plex users” added to “My Home”, this worked perfectly well before on the XBox One. But now you are saying that I have to remove them as “Regular users” and add them as “Managed Users”? Of course by doing this they will loose their current “On Deck” I assume, not the end of the world, but not exactly intuitive either

Actually, scratch that. Not sure what was happening before (as my wife is not good at describing replication steps), but basically it seems to work fine now. Just signed her Microsoft user into the Xbox and launched Plex and she was not prompted link the device and seems to be working fine
