App.plex.tv unusable - re-renders every few seconds

Player Version#: Version 4.124.1

All pages on the web UI currently re-rendering every few seconds. Unusable.

only happens on app.plex.tv (4.124.1) - when I connect directly to either of my own plex server (web client 4.116.1 / 4.123.2) it works fine.

appears to be triggered by the
https://clients.plex.tv/api/v2/resources call.
If I remove one of my servers that is on the beta release (1.40.0.7998-c29d4c0c8) from that response, the re-rendering stops. My other server is 1.32.8.7639-fb6452ebf.

edit: only happens while a media scan is happening on 1.40.0.7998. Does not happen when there’s a media scan on 1.32.8.7639.

Same thing happening to me as well. I can be on the home page of my server and the page will refresh every 30 seconds. If i go to watch something, i get an error has occurred, refer to forums.

I can access my friends server from my account without any issues as well. I switched accounts to access my personal server and no issues. It appears this refresh / playback error is only with my main account that is connected to the plex media server. literally cant watch anything on my main account

it’s only impacting server admins, because it only happens when there is a scan.

Looking through the logs, seems like there’s this was happening while I was experiencing this (it seems to have stopped now)

MyPlex: Invalid response when mapping state (code=429):

429 usually indicating a rate limit.

Which logs are you looking at? There so many log files at:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Logs

Not sure which one to look at.

I have tried to remove all authorized devices
sign out sign back in.
restart server / computer
Reset customization (account settings > general)
Restore Defaults (Account settings > Debug > Restore Defaults)
Reinstalled plex windows app

sounds like im just going to have to try to rebuild my entire plex database from scratch

And youre right, its only impacting server admins. all my friends are unaffected and can stream without any issues. if i switch accounts on my windows app and try to stream something, no errors.
Accessing my friends server from my server admin account works as well.
Issue is only when im accessing my server via my server admin account.

Getting it again today - with the 429s in the logs.

I wouldn’t do a rebuild due to this - it’s unlikely to work.

I’d just turn off scheduled media scanning for a few days until it is fixed. Maybe try disabling all the extra metadata agents for TV. I did this, and it stopped right after but I wasn’t able to trigger the error again by turning it back on so not sure if it is the actual cause.

Alternatively, access the server directly and not via app.plex.tv

Have managed to replicate this issue:

Under Library settings there is Run a partial scan when changes are detected - it only happens when this is on and scans are running.

I can trigger one of these partial scans if I change the permissions of the directory that contains the videos ( e.g chmod 775 TV/ && chmod 777 TV/ ) or just by hitting Scan Library Files - but Scan Library Files will only trigger it once.

so if i disable partial scan, i should be fine temporarily? and i can just manually trigger the scan when i need to?

You don’t have to manually trigger, you can still enable the automatically scan after changes and disable the partial scan box. Try it - see if it works.

I have also narrowed it down to scanning. Altho, it doesn’t only happen to admins, as you said. I had a user complain about this error where it just stops playback randomly.

I disabled all scanning for now. Someone from Plex said there won’t be a fix for this until Monday.
