I completely agree. Fixing the video stuttering should be the #1 priority.
No response for 20 days. Should tell everyone where the priorities are.
Hit a playback issue with a specific codec and the newest 2025.7.0 (888) build on both iOS and Apple TV. Rolling back to the 2025.6.0 (877) build somewhat fixed it.
I lost the will to provide more details at this time to help narrow it down, as Watch Together is going away. I am ending my new experience testing at this time to focus on looking into alternatives to Plex, since it’s now become clear the new experience will drop features with no intent to replace them prior to release, a move Sonos also recently pulled and led to some headaches in this household last year.
No-
i’m sure plenty of us are still here, however the lack of new releases and extra focus on the new experience, without a lot of clarity as to where the player fits in, as well as @Craig_Holliday’s attention seemingly having been drawn elsewhere…
definitely feels like a holding pattern.
Forums can become toxic easily. I don’t think it’s helpful to wonder if people are “lazy, apathetic, or incompetent” - it doesn’t help solve anything and it does make the forum itself worse.
Many company-run forums have simply been closed because it wasn’t worth the hassle and damage to deal with them. I like this community, and think we should treat the participating Plex employees more like humans.
I’m confident they advocate for us as much as they can. I’m sure they’re given a bunch of conflicting tasks. I just don’t think I’d prioritize the forum thread where I was being insulted.

Having chatted with Craig on Friday night (yes, NIGHT), he and team are very busy.
I know people are upset.
Some are quite frustrated
Can we move forward?
I don’t know what I can detail but look carefully at this screenshots.
One is tonemapping at 20 Mbps and, while playing, changing to full quality on my 2017 iPad. It works even better on my ATV 4K.
Those of you who’ve used it before should recognize the “TestFlight” border.
There is a huge amount of development going on right now.
Craig or any of the Apple team not being responsive is regrettable but 100% understandable.
When you all get this new app (yes, it’s completely new) , you’ll like it
– It works.
I’ve not yet found a playback problem with it.
Hey Chuck,
Don’t suppose you can confirm if that’s playing in DV or HDR?
That video is HDR. My Apple devices are all older (2017/2019) except for my iPhone 11 Pro (not as old)
Stream #0:0(eng): Video: hevc (Main 10), yuv420p10le(tv, bt2020nc/bt2020/smpte2084), 3840x2160 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 23.98 tbc
Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: truehd, 48000 Hz, 7.1, s32 (24 bit) (default)

Stream #0:2(eng): Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 448 kb/s

Ah dam thanks for confirming hopefully DV playback works too though, which has been a sticking point for ATV especially for profile 8
Craig did say they’re only doing HDR right now
util they work out all of DV.
I’ll fire up my TV when I get home and see what I get (LG OLED 2021) w/ ATV 4K
Awesome appreciate the effort
My 2024 G4 only shows HDR, which is what Craig said a while ago, till things were sorted.
As someone who has been quite critical of progress on this issue, I feel like I have to chime in. The latest Plex Preview Experience is pretty good - I don’t have any stuttering on playback or any lip sync issues. Yes, DV and DA are missing, but for sure playback is great - it’s certainly usable which wasn’t the case previously.
Also, @Craig_Holliday was a breath of fresh air because Plex always had this “wall of silence” and he bucked that trend so more than happy to cut him some slack on this.
It’s moving in the right direction and feels like a better product is months away rather than years away.
The player in Plex Experience Preview is smoother, yes. Shame the player UI is awful.
I just wish Experience felt and behaved like an Apple TV app, rather than a slow laggy website shoehorned into pretending to be an app.
I like it. And I like the direction it’s headed in. I like the layout. I don’t like the user selection screen and I don’t like the navigation but I’m sure they’ll iron stuff out. Playback is much better. Given that Infuse playback is the gold standard, but the interface is pants then I’ll cut Plex some slack for now!
I can’t help it if your server & network are slow ![]()

In all seriousness, have you fully defragmented your DBs ?
(not Plex’s “Optimize Databases” but a full resequence & pack with PMS off like I do with my github tool?)
Regarding issues; Yes, there are issues with it in this DEVELOPMENT stage.
I get a new build, sometimes two or three, every day from the team.
This is dismissive (I’m really not surprised). The core issue is that the app has been in a bad state for literal years. It’s like you people just keep glossing over that part. It’s not acceptable no matter how you try to positively spin in. No one, myself included, would be “upset” or “quite frustrated”, as Chuck so described, if the company itself actually cared enough about their users to put this to bed.
May I respond ?
I think it speaks loudly of the company caring in that they started the complete rewrite of several players .
Since last year’s layoff and internal reassignments, a lot has happened - and all for the better IMHO.
You all know I am direct and will be loud when I see ****.
Well, I actually like what I’m seeing now with the Apple devices.
It’s the first time, in a long time, I have anything good to say about it.
That, in and of itself, should tell you something.
To therefore answer “If the company cared…”, YES they do care and YES they are doing something about it.
Got home and a chance to confirm HDR / DV status.
ATV is the A1842 model → Onkyo TXRZ AVR → LG C1 OLED.
As expected, HDR-only at this juncture but it looks DA** good.
Awesome to hear, thanks Chuck.
I recently got an ATV 4K (3rd Gen) and have had some stuttering issues with some 4K HDR/DV content. Haven’t rolled the dice on the TestFlight Beta, and am patiently awaiting the stable release. Once DV support is added back to the new experience (assuming it’s already in the current stable/CPU-based player), I’ll pull the trigger to update.
