Correct, this is yet another Apple-documented tvOS design feature that all apps should adhere to, and which Plex is not (it did work for a bit but was very finicky).
All g, I’m definitely agreeing with you here. The link and the documentation I quoted is from Apple. I’m saying that Plex should behave in a way that is consistent with the design of tvOS. Definitely on your side
Seems like a pretty stupid thing to do, to break the design guidelines and conventions on the platform causing user confusion and frustration, but hey at least Plex can say “our player sucks on every platform, and best of all, it sucks consistently!”
No. We should call for better. Right now, the Plex Experience Preview tvOS app is hot garbage. It’s slightly less garbage than previous betas, but it’s still garbage.
It’s a different player, and the Plex devs have made it clear that they’re sticking to their misguided and frankly terrible decision to develop this player UI, but by absolutely no measure does it have “better abilities” than Apple’s native UI. Maybe it has better decoding abilities, but it sucks to use. Infuse has better decoding abilities than any of Plex’s players have ever had, and has a better - native - player UI to boot!
Are you for real?
Unfortunately, I think we’re still up against the “shared codebase” and “single app for all clients” issue here.
We’re fighting against “lowest common denominator” design as the UI/UX has to be functional across even the most basic Roku/Android platforms and they may not be able to support or to follow basic tvOS standards.
Shared codebase is not a valid excuse about not sticking to guidelines. Not sure about what language they code in but there is definitely a way to use simple if-then statements to change behavior depending on device being used.
While using Apple TV - 2025.10.13 (1025) I put in airpods pro 2 and switched audio to them and the show restarts from the beginning (originally was at 14 minutes in.)
I’d stay out of programming conversations in general as you clearly do not know what you’re talking about. Shared codebased =/= shared UI. If you don’t know that, you have no business in a conversation about programming an app, period.
I agree. I use Infuse and it just works. However I really want the Plex app to be better
I have hopes, LOL
I completely agree. I’ve been using Infuse for two years because the Apple TV Plex app continues to have stuttering issues when playing video. I can’t believe it’s been two years since I stopped using it. Every time there is an update I check to see if the stuttering issue has been addressed and I’m always disappointed. In fact, the current production version is 8.45 which was released on 1/28/25. That is three months without an update. Meanwhile, in the same amount of time Infuse has had 4 updates with the last one on 3/31/25. That is unacceptable by any standard.
I think its because they now focus on the new experience player.
I like the new player better so I hope they fix the remaining issues.
All I want from player on Apple TV is to just play files without issues. Plex was bad for this use case for past few years.
I keep hearing about this New Experience player but no one seems to have any idea when it is going to be released on the Apple TV.
Be careful what you wish for @mroy5150
Based on the general reaction to the Testflight previews so far you may want them to postpone release for another 200 years or so
The Preview (pre-beta) version is available now. As far as timelines / dates, Plex doesn’t publish those. Keep an eye for Preview updates/announcements here:
Keep an eye for the beta release announcement and then for the regular release announcment…
The problem that I have with the feedback process, is that finding whether an issue has already been reported or not is extremely tedious, since most reports are filed under a few “master threads” that now go on forever. Some of the older posts being now archived doesn’t make it any easier to make sure you are not duplicating previous feedback.
I know, in my case, for sure, it has seriously limited the feedback I was willing to spend the time to provide.
I wish we could have a better, more organized way to provide feedback that would make it easier to track previous entries properly.
What you’re asking for is essentially a publicly-facing bug tracker.
I honestly don’t know why Plex doesn’t introduce something like that - it would probably help settle down a lot of noise on the forums.
And it wouldn’t need to include any internal bugs they find - just those reported by the community.
Plex has got to be one of the least user-friendly software companies I know.

For the same reason that adding it would be a good thing – it would make it easier to see what issues have been reported and how long ago. Imagine the optics of a bug with stutterly 4K playback on a certain very powerful streaming device sitting open for over two years.
Compare that to now: A person reports an issue, gets ignored, they bump their topic for awhile seeking assistance, and then eventually give up or get too busy with other things. Then 90 days later the thread automatically closes, and sinks into the abyss of posts no one sees and rarely search for.

Sure! Something like what you find on Github.
At least a way to have one thread per issue (with multiple tags), and not a 25k posts thread with everything and anything in it.

I couldn’t agree more. I’ve had that problem in the past (MP4 metadata gets ignored completely by Plex Server for instance) and it makes it discouraging to even report anything after that.
So what’s going on now, there is still no fix for the h265 videos transcoding and it was supposed to be fixed Tuesday last week ?
