Apple Player Update Beta Testing

My Apple TV still shows 2025.13.0 as the latest build in Test Flight. Is that accurate?

Latest release is always listed here:

Best post on this entire forum in recent times.

I’m a supporter of Plex, and I don’t really see a reason to switch to something else, however the amount of times I’ve been ignored when I bring up valid, reproducible and important bugs is almost hilarious. It’s extremely discouraging after a while. I have many bugs that I don’t report because I know full well they will be ignored. I just stop using that feature and give up on it.

It’s a shame too because if one takes away the usual riff raff of a forum like this, I do feel like the user base is still kind of technical, and can report bugs in a good manner. Probably more than most places. But when they ignore all of those people, they will simply leave or stop contributing. It’s easy to see the lack of positive engagement currently, and Plex don’t seem to care at all. I really don’t understand it at this point. Very weird but I suppose it is what is.

Use the public app store app, or Infuse.

Public store app TestFlight was pulled and now it’s the new app. It’s still a dumpster fire.

Is the ‘old’ app for Apple TV getting a new build on TestFlight? Or are you now focusing on that Experience Preview?

New Apple TV - 2025.15.0 (1045)
Shows no SRT subtitles for some reason. (Czech)

So updating the Plex Apple TV app installs the Experience release? The same as iOS and iPadOS?

That would be a show stopper for me. I don’t use iPhones or iPads so much to watch content but I - and my daughters, who live somewhere else - use the ATV every day. Literally, every day.

I won’t be updating the app if this is the case. But I have a couple of questions for those of you who are running the Experience app

  • Is there theme music in the Apple TV Experience app?
  • Is the background art cropped as in the iOS app?
  • Any problem playing 4K HEVC media?
  • Overheating (I have read reports of iPhones getting really hot)?

It doesn’t appear that there is an Apple TV update yet at least for me. The preview build was removed from TestFlight and the App Store was updated with the broken version. Honestly Apple TV version is simpler than the iOS since you don’t have touch control to worry about so I’m not too worried since almost all the UI bugs I have would not be an issue on a TV.

Update: srt subtitles problem affects also iOS, iPadOS and Apple TV players as well.
Using Czech srt subtitles, nothing shows up.
!!!

@Craig_Holliday

Edit: not all of them it seems, just some, weird.

BTW right now the most useful feature that I lack in new app is the possibility to define preferred audio/subtitles language per profile.
I want original audio but my children want dubbing.

Navigating in 2025.15.0 seems snappier so far except the backgrounds sometimes don’t load.

2025.15.0 is having issues with live TV (via hdhomerun) its seems to error out even after rebooting app.

When using the new app preview on appleTV, when playing HEVC and using HomePods it transcodes the video and direct streams the audio. But if I switch to AirPods it direct plays.

Has anyone else experianced this?

Actual bug report: skip intro is permanently highlighted… so you can’t actually tell when it has focus when you summon the player bar.

Not bug report: went back to regular Plex and damn it feels good not to have controls in the player bar. The only usecase I have for skipping an episode is when Plex does something daft like when I press skip episodes because I thought I had skip intro highlighted…

Also, are you really going with that next episode screen?

Also, I have never had a background image load, ever. Plex reg and Infuse manage this fine, any idea what could cause it?

Total aside: the menus are still horrible and feel like Roku.

The player bar is confusing because I can’t figure out how to close it. I hit the back button and it ends up taking me back to the home screen instead of just closing the player bar.

I can’t cast to Apple TV from either iPhone or iPad. So flammin annoying that they have replaced the perfectly working app with this POS.

That’s not an issue with the Apple TV app. It’s an issue with the new iOS app and Airplay. You’re posting on the wrong thread.

Unfortunately this is correct thread, because they merged all Apple players in to single thread

“They” is the original poster who picked a bunch of tags that no longer apply. A better thread would be Bug: Cannot AirPlay or Chromecast in New App
