I’m surprised you really think that Apple is the holy grail of all things professional when all Apple does is ruin the consumer experience too. Let me show you an example of ruining the audio experience, causing confusion with their st00pid audio marketing nearly a year ago and let me also add the fact that Apple does intend to incorporate more advertising into their wall-gardened ecosystem - and YOU think Apple are the experts on audio, video, and everything tech? nah. It’s all smoke and mirrors. Third-party devs who create deviation can create innovation, especially when tech companies love to stifle competition or sit on stagnation.
I don’t think Apple should block different player interfaces.
I think Plex is foolish for implementing a custom player interface.
It triggers Dolby vision on my lg oled however in some movies the highlights are overly bright and blown out, so I still prefer infuse.
Wait, no Dolby vision? Pretty sure the old app used DV, all my stuff is DV and seems to play fine.
Don’t regret ditching Netflix
It boils down to the same thing Netflix did it for: Native Advertising and better tracking. But yea, dumb.
Current tvOS beta has DV support
You will need to toggle DV on, with a high speed HDMI connection.
It’s just HDR though isn’t it, and forcing the DV flag.
I can’t say specifically for Profile 7 content (which also triggers DV), but Profile 5 content plays and looks good on tv’s that support DV. They don’t play on HDR only tv (which makes sense).
And devs will keep using the lowest common denominator to keep their life simple.
If the beta app is just doing the same fake DV, I don’t imagine they have plans to fix it. Which sucks, but also to me says this app is pretty close to launch state. Honestly I think they could release it in its current state and still experience less blow back than when the Roku app was launched, minus the obvious that people will endlessly complain about the change in UI, which is unavoidable. I imagine though after that debacle that they want to really minimize those negative reactions and are holding on to it until they think its as good as can be, but at this point, leaving the release app around for so long with no updates on its end and people still experiencing microstutters, feels like a worse option than releasing the beta in a slightly imperfect but totally useable and “feature complete” state.
Would be really surprise if it takes till the end of the year to release it.
Apple TestFlight Crashes today on launch
Mine did the same last week, thought it was just me since I didn’t see any other reports. Tried reinstalling, but kept happening. Had to install an old version and then upgrade back to 2026.7.0.
Just tried what worked for you and also rebooted everything, but still crashes on launch for me.
Can not reproduce your experience with my 2 iPad Pro M4, installed and worked straight off. Hmmm?
2026.8.0 (1671)
Have you tried rebooting your device and then trying to install? Not that I needed to do so.
Apple TV 4K. Rebooted everything. Still crashes on open. No issue with the released Plex
Ok Tony, are you saying your Apple Tv is crashing? Which update are you referring to that you believe is the culprit ?
The Plex Beta (the latest and a few of the previous TestFlight versions). Is Crashing. The Plex Beta App loads to the Plex Splash Screen, then quits (crashes)
So which are you referring, TvOS 2026.7.0 (1646) or Plex Media server 1.43.1.10611-1e34174b1. No crashing my end with ATV 4K Gen 3.
Have had Crashes / Error with Live TV using a HomeRun Tuner, that’s been PITA
