Apple TV 4K (1st Gen) stuttering video issues with 4K HDR Files

A recent update seems to have broken the Plex App playing 4K HDR content smoothly on my Apple TV. The video seems to be skipping frames constantly to make watching jerky and impossible to view.

If I switch to the old player in settings it is better but there is an occasional skip even then. No issues with the files themselves as they play without issue on the Plex app on my Samsung TV and in Infuse and even get this issue with a film file I watched just a couple of weeks ago with no issue.

Any ideas of what is causing this and how it can be fixed?

Having the same problem with the same Apple TV. Plex competitors play this with no problems.

4K HDR (HEVC/H265) seems to be the issue. Turning off the new videoplayer, reverting to the old one and turning off direct play seems to fix this, but this isn‘t a viable solution.

Having this problem for quite some time now.
