I have both the nVidia Shield Pro and new Apple 4k 2021 model.
I have a few 4k hdr demos that play perfectly fine on the nVidia Shield Pro, but when I use the Plex app on the new Apple 4k the demos will stutter and not playback normal. However, if I run Infuse 7 on the Apple 4k with those demos playback is perfect.
Both devices are connected via gigabit ethernet and I have the match dynamic and framerate options enabled.
I had the exact same issue with HDR (1080p & 4k) and AppleTV4K (2021), but for the last week or so, I have not experienced playback issue, where the picture sort of freezes or is very pixelated, but audio continues to play with no issues.
And I am certain it was a PLEX and HDR issue, since disabling HDR always fixed it, or playing same media with HDR on Infuse. But great if an update has fixed it
The last couple of times I experienced it, I could fix the issue, by restarting video playback or restart the AppleTV, and playback the movie (with HDR) again.
Also ethernet. I use a Raspberry Pi4 as Media Sever (Version 1.23.3.4707)
And it is the same kind of of pixelated/freezed picture, but sound still playing issue, as I described it?
Ran out of luck tonight. Just happened again while watching a movie with HDR!
But agree, it must be related to AppleTV Plex app. But odd nobody else seems to have this issue?!?
One thing I noticed is when I swipe down on the menu the video is set to convert to 4k. If I switch to play original quality the stuttering stops. I have it set to original quality in the app settings.
Yea, unfortunately it is not because the video is being transcoded, at least not in my case. Checked it and it is always when the video is being direct played. Also not really possible to transcode anything on a pi(my pms server), let alone 4K hdr. That would properly result in a bunch of other issues
Yes mine shows as DirectPlay as well. It just seems like there are some issues right now with the Plex app on Apple 4k devices. Hopefully they can fix it. Infuse works great.
