I am getting video playback judder on all videos with Plex on ATV.
Like the frame rate is incorrect.
I’ve checked the stats/logs and it claims to be running direct play, and at the correct frame rate for the video.
It’s like it’s skipping frames every few seconds.
I have match frame rate set in Apple settings but that makes no difference.
I get perfect playback on the same videos on my Roku Ultra running same Plex in another room.
I also get perfect playback in Infuse, so it’s not a system frame rate match issue - it’s limited to Plex on the ATV.
I’ve tried running old video player and old audio player - but doesn’t make any difference
I have the same issue. All 23.98 content frame skips and stutters on MPV player.
Using old (avplayer) player or setting not to direct play, only direct stream seems to fix it for me so could be to do with the MKV wrapper as they seem to be copied into MP4 when using this method.
Overlay says FPS is 24, so could be playing back at the wrong rate, or that could be a display problem and just rounding up.
I use infuse now as even my wife notices it constantly when using Plex.
+1 experiencing this issue as well on the newest 128GB model.
However my older 2017 version doesn’t seem to have this issue, so hopefully the devs who are using the newer models can sort this out as I’ve just had to use Infuse to finish a movie because it was so distracting.
FWIW turning the debug overlay on doesn’t register as dropping frames, but the stutter is there nonetheless.
Very same problem here, makes the Plex player literally unusable for me.
Similarly there was no issue on 2nd gen of Apple TV 4K
3rd gen stutters and frame skips like crazy on 95% of my content.
As mentioned above, Infuse is the interim solution…
The problem is so obvious and happens all the time. Yet, the Plex staff can’t reproduce the issue internally. I really don’t understand how it’s possible.
