As it seems to be a reoccurring theme with Plex related bugs, we have provided logs and samples but looks like there is no fix
It’s really frustrating:( I’ve tried all the tricks. I even thought it was my projector or my Sonos
Yes, it’s a file compatibility thing. but, my player on my iPhone plays the same files flawlessly.
@sergiou87 any update on this for everyone? Really big problem for all of us Plex lovers. Been forced to use infuse like most to play files correctly, but Plex does a far better job of displaying all my collections… any sort of update would be appreciated.
Not yet because I can’t reproduce the issue, so I can’t pinpoint the reason for this problem, sorry
I want to take a look into this (again) but I’ve been very busy lately.
I can privately send you an affected file
Thank you @M_O_E but at this point I think the reason why I can’t reproduce the problem is not because I don’t have files that cause the bug (I’ve already tested many samples sent by users with the problem) but because I don’t have the hardware to reproduce it (don’t have a soundbar or home cinema equipment where the problem happens).
I still need to pinpoint what exact combination of audio format + sound equipment cause the problem.
Meanwhile, could you try going to tvOS settings -> Audio and Video
-> Audio Format
and there select Dolby Digital 5.1
and see if that fixes the problem for you?
Just to chip-in with the choice of AV equipment where I notice the issue - mine is a SONOS Playbar using Optical Out. The issue is present regardless of which TV is receiving the Apple TV signal and passing it through.
In my case the audio goes to a stereo receiver through the TV via HDMI ARC
The 5.1 doesn’t help. The issue is there every without the playbar.
@M_O_E you mean the problem persists with the TV speakers?
Yes it does
Wow, that’s interesting and very useful. Then yeah, could you share with me:
- A sample file (Generating Sample Files from Media | Plex Support)
- App logs right after reproducing the issue (Apple TV Logs | Plex Support)
- The XML media info of the file (Investigate Media Information and Formats | Plex Support)
Maybe with that I can reproduce the issue here! Thanks in advance

Please let me know when I can take this down
@M_O_E you can remove the file now, I just downloaded it. Thank you!
Could anyone experiencing issues please try and see if Frame Rate Matching is a reason for this delay?
I have this issue and disabling Frame Rate Matching seems to have resolved it for me (or it’s small enough that I can’t perceive it) on a notoriously bad video (something like 0.5s off sync). I’ll have to test more.
Any luck yet?
Same behavior here. Frame matching appears to be the issue. In general though I’m not willing to turn it off since I want correct frame rate. Stuck with the old video player for now, which does not have the issue even with frame matching. Would love a fix for this!
So, not sure if this has been mentioned in this long, long, ongoing thread that plex should have found a fix to, but I have an LG OLED and this issue happens to me whenever the REAL CINEMA picture option is turned on in the TV picture settings. This option is auto enabled whenever the content is 24p and causing the issue. As soon as I disable it, movies are perfectly in sync. However, this causes stuttering because the frame rate isn’t synced with the display.
This seems like the cause - basically the 3:2 pulldown feature on your tv is causing the out of sync issues and plex needs to be aware!
