Apple TV 4K audio sync issues with enhanced player

ATV doesn’t support bitstreaming.

Outputting Dolby Digital audio is bitstreaming, no?

No, the Apple TV does all the decoding.

How do you know the ATV isn’t just transferring the DD audio (or EAC3 Atmos) from the source App to the TV ?. AFAIK, it is the only type of supported bitstream audio.

Infuse and VLC both work fine on my Apple TV.

FWIW, Audio sync has been terrible in other apps on my (Gen1) 4K AppleTV. YouTube TV in particular has been a problem, but I’ve seen it in F1 TV app, Netflix and HBO Max too.

That was short lived. The Plex app on my smart TV isn’t the silver bullet that I thought it was.

This was probably obvious to most given the thread title, but I tried the old player and the audio sync issues vanished. Fixes the issues for my tv series being out of sync, but not so good for movies as many (HDR etc) won’t play at all with the old player.

This isn’t an Apple issue because the sync issue doesn’t happen with the old player in Plex or with Infuse. Plex folks, please fix this sync issue. I want to use Plex, but I’m forced to use the old player to get around the sync issue, but the old player is causing my PMS to crash occasionally if I have SRT subs turned on. For some reason, the old player causes PMS to transcode SRT subs to WebVTT, which can crash the transcoder.

old player doesnt support SRT subs, oh really any subs, plex has to burn them into the stream (which is sucks at which you are finding out)

The tv apps are terrible. Do anything with bitrate video or audio and watch if stutter, freeze and or crash. I have two 2022 Sony TVs and a 2023 model. Horribly spyware filled experience.

Also to the person says apple has horrible codec support natively, well at least they can do Dolby vision/atmos while Plex just lies about the fact it can.

Who here has experience with Infuse for Apple TV?

I would like to switch because it seems like Plex is not fixing the issues and are not responding in a meaningful way to my questions about timeline for when I can use Plex again.

Thank you very much

I’ve been using Infuse since this issue became a problem for me. Works flawlessly.

Infuse has no multi user support, no transcoding on the fly support, no smart collections support, no multiple libraries support (e.g. all movies are merged).

You can pin individual Plex libraries to the homepage though so have different movie sections that way.

But all those features you list are useless when the app can’t play media properly…

literally.

and they wont respond to you in a meaningful way lol

they also have a better community and ACTUALLY support their user base. Honestly just stick with jellyfin and infuse if you are an apple tv user. plex is basically useless as a backend if you are forced to used infuse to watch your media properly.

I know this isn’t the solution but I use my Vero 4K+ (Kodi) to watch my movies on the TV. I use the Apple TV’s superior Plex interface to “discover” what I want to watch. Then I just switch over to my Vero to watch the show. The Kodi interface is pretty crappy but it plays everything 100% perfect.

I obviously use Plex when I watch my stuff on my iPad.

Kodi doesn’t play Dolby Vision does it?

Nope. I think that’s the only thing it’s missing (aside from a Linux-GUI-y-ish interface). Personally, I can’t tell the difference between HDR and DV. (I have 4 LG OLEDs and can’t tell the HDR-difference between Kodi Remux HDR vs Apple TV DV).
