I just bought an AppleTV 4k to experiment and see what all the hub bub was about and I truly understand now what AppleTV users are facing. The vibe is “oh, come on!!!”
My LG does too. It’s the LG firmware doing that. I get the “DolbyVision” every time the signal is detected. Annoying.

@ChuckPa , you forgot #5. “Did you reboot your machine?”
#5. Did you restart?
#6. Whose instructions did you use ?

18 July 2023 Plex for Apple TV app 8.22 AV sync, as with every PMS for Mac and Apple Plex player app (macOS, iOS, tvOS) combination I’ve tried since March 2022, slips dramatically upon repositioning playback a few times, sometimes even just once.
.
Plex for Apple TV app 8.22 current audio engine, as with 8.21, continues to render Plex useless for watching current OTA TV and playing HD content:
Plex for Apple TV 8.21–8.22 AGAIN Dung—Can’t Watch TV, nor HD Content; Useless like 8.6
Probably a result of this?
On the plus side.
Infuse hope to have Plex direct mode up and running sometime next week.
It will then probably get to the point where I just check the Plex client once every month or two and see if any of the numerous issues are fixed.
Life’s just too short now.
Same age and also stroke but add in active cancer (heart is good though) ![]()
I’ve found for me, my two iPads as remotes are my friends (controlling our AVR, TV, HTPC, iOT etc). I struggle with my Harmony 650’s but the wife loves them. Our k400+ is also a struggle to use these days although the touchpad is still useful and all I really need for Plex HTPC.
I’ve only got one ATV left now (two others sit in a box under the stairs) and it is not 4K (4K really does not offer me much at my age anyway).
Our last remaining ATV does not have this sync issue so what am I doing wrong in missing out on this ‘feature’.
Slightly off topic, but when it comes to universal remotes, the situation is pretty dire in my opinion. I solved the issue for myself creatively:
You’re missing about this

Is it me (or wishful thinking) that forcing video transcoding seems to reduce the sync issue?
The sync problems are mostly with 4K. If your ATV is non-4K then you mostly watch 1080p which works correctly most of the time.
Wishing you the best on your health issues.
Hello @ChuckPa
Can you help me get my money back? Plex is broken.
Also we need to help everyone else who also paid for Lifetime to get a full refund.
You can send this question to your manager if you don’t feel like helping yourself. Enough is enough. It’s been too many years of combative communication from Plex’s side with 0 explanations or road maps.
It is not for me to become involved with Billing issues.
This is a (technical/user) support forum.
This having been said and since you raised the topic –
I will state this once and only once.
-
Plex has NEVER given roadmaps in the almost 10 years I’ve been around.
– Release schedules (in the broad stroke sense) might be a nice thing. -
On the PERSONAL level (ChuckPa the user)
– My issues with the AppleTV 4K are because of Apple (1080p or Apple-streamed content is fine)
– Apple will not ‘bitstream’ (Passthrough) the audio. They refuse
Anything above DTS core is forcibly converted to LPCM. This was always the case even before Steve’s passing.
– The AppleTV 4K cannot / will not “properly” do what I want.
– I had to buy an Nvidia Shield Pro (2019) to get what I wanted. Whose fault is that?

Ugh. I’ve been eyeballing an AppleTV 4k for a while now as an alternative to the Roku and Shield that seemed more polished, reliable, and with gigabit ethernet.
Pulled the trigger last week and immediately noticed the weird hiccups with no audio passthrough, audio delays and other nuances. It’s nuts to me that my 2020 Roku Ultra LT 4662RW seems to be better in terms of passthrough and compatibility,
Plex is mostly usable with a 200ms delay set, but it’s a headache always wondering if my audio is in sync even after a wireless calibration and turning off match frame rate in TVOS.
A two year old thread wasn’t what I hoped to find.
Leave match frame rate on or it will be a stutter fest.
Give Infuse a try until Plex gets this fixed.
Appreciate the suggestion on Infuse. Never came across it before.
Still learning all of these ATV settings and debating if it’s worth keeping for Hulu, D+, and other apps.
No problem!
Infuse will connect to Plex, with a ‘direct mode’ coming soon. Worth a shot!
Anxiously waiting for my Apple TV 4K to be delivered shortly…do these audio issues mainly come into play when using external audio systems, soundbars, etc? I just use what’s baked into my TV system (but I do watch 4K content).
