Apple TV 4K Content stuttering with "New Player"

After many weeks of investigation I realized that the New Player was causing some (somewhat random ?!) 4K HDR content to not play smoothly.

More details in this previous post (when I hadn’t realized that it was an issue specific to the AppleTV Plex Player): 4k playback performance issue on certain files only

Forcing Plex Player to use “Use the old player” made the issue go away immediately.

Just wanted to call out attention to this.

I have the same problem! It is not fixed yet.

And just for completeness, its only on AppleTV 4K (DirectPlay), at my NVIDIA SHIELD TV it works as expected.

And if I use the old player it works also on AppleTV (DirectStream).

Same here old player plus so much better on my Apple TV 4K and also 2020 MacBook Pro.

Me too on that list.

Experiencing get the spinning wheel of death when I switch to the old player, then eventually times out with an error message, “Something went wrong playing your media. Please try again.” Switch back to the new player and 4K stutters again.
