Hello,
Having issues why Plex when playing either video or music on my Apple TV 4K which is connected to a pair of HomePods in a stereo pair over airplay.
Symptoms are frequent audio de syncing between the two HomePods, this does not happen with any other audio or video app on the Apple TV. There are also periodic pauses in the sound this also happens in video and music, but the video does not stop playing and the sound just cuts out.
I have a similar problem. I simultaneously route audio from an Apple TV 4K to my living room stereo (hard wired) and via AirPlay to a HomePod in another room.
This recently stopped working only when audio is from Plex. I can play to one output device or the other, but not both.
I am having this same problem too. Audio from Plex won’t play on both hard-wired stereo and AirPlay. Only one or the other. This still works on the old player but stopped working on the new player. This used to work on the new play with tvOS 13 and still works with other apps besides Plex.
I’ve also had the issue with the audio being out of sync with the HomePod stereo pair. Turning off the Enhanced Player is a fix, but you lose some other features like subtitle offsetting.
The Plex devs must be aware of the issue, but seemingly have 0 interest in fixing it from what I have seen. I’m a bit disappointed as a lifetime Plexpass subscriber.
I’ve tried turning off the Enhanced Player, however, when scrubbing through a video, there is still periodic audio desyncing but not as often as with the Enhanced Player.
Oh yeah. I’ve seen some of that too. I guess I have just trained myself to not fast forward or rewind. I also try my best not to ever pause once started.
Have you tried Infuse to play back the same content? It seems to not have the sync issues, but I ran into some issues where it would just intermittently stop playing with an error a few times during a movie.
Really hoping the Plex devs take note and are working on a fix. Would be nice if a decision could chime in on any one of the multiple threads about this issue if only to acknowledge it exists.
Having the same issue. When I use the old player it’s fine but that forces transcoding which I want to avoid.
Using the Plex player it’s so slightly out of sync but enough for me to bump this thread so it doesn’t get closed and ignored like the threads from 2018.
I too started to have this problem ever since setting up a pair of HomePods for the Apple TV audio. I will try using the old player to resolve it. It is true that the de-sync is very slight but still noticeable. I don’t believe I ever noticed this when using my TV to output the audio from the Apple TV 4K. Hope the Plex team can find the issue or let us know if they are working on a fix.
Just picked up a HomePod and audio is really out of sync when playing content on the latest Plex beta. I’m running 14.2 HomePod firmware and 14.3 tvOS public beta.
Seems to be a an issue with Plex only. We try to see if I have the same issue with the non-enhanced player.
Just bumping this. Having the same issue here. Was trying to play some 7.1 audio and the old player made it transcode, so I switched to the new one, and the audio stream didn’t transcode, but the audio was all off and it was noticeable enough for me to switch back.
I’m having the same problems and am also considering just using a wired solution. I’m also a lifetime subscriber and would greatly prefer not to have to use infuse but I’m tempted to try it in order to fix the audio sync issues.
I have audio issues with the Plex app on iOS as well.
My default output is to my receiver, and if I try to play to the kitchen HomePod it disables audio to my receiver.
I am currently experiencing this issue been about 2 months it is becoming very annoying. Disabling enhanced player has not fixed the issue for myself. I hope this issue is addressed, I love my Homepods in stereo mode.
