Plex on Apple TV has audio sync issues when outputting to a HomePod Stereo Pair

Server Version#: Version 1.14.0.5470
Player Version#: Latest Apple TV App

Hey friends,

I recently got a pair of HomePods for my TV setup. For most things, Plex is fine with them, but for some 4K remuxes, the sound is desynced by half a second or so.

This only happens when the audio output is the stereo paired homepods (swapping to the tv’s audio causes everything to sync up fine) and only seems to happen to remuxes with True HD 7.1 audio. Swapping to an AC3 audio stream doesn’t solve the issue either. These files output to the Homepods fine when played with Infuse, but I’d like to use Plex for everything as I prefer the customization.

My plex server is a 2018 i7 Mac Mini. Everything is hardwired with Cat 6.

Any idea? Or do I need to go down the sickbeard mp4 converter hole?

Thanks!

I’m having the same issue, I bought a couple of HomePods during Black Friday to use with my Apple TV and getting them working with Plex has been a nightmare. I’m seeing similar audio desync, but only in Plex. My Plex server and network is more than capable of the content I’m watching, and works perfectly with the sound bar I used to use before getting the HomePods. I thought it was just something weird with my setup before I saw this post.

I’d love to get some kind of response on this from the Plex staff before this turns into one of these: https://xkcd.com/979/

Pity bump in the hopes that someone has the answer.

One last try now that Plex Pass in 25%. It would be nice to see some level of support, even if the official answer is “¯_(ツ)_/¯ Apple”

It’s crazy that y’all sell a 130 dollar product with no official support channel. You just have to roll the dice and see if you get lucky on the forums.

Bananas

Ah well. Back to Infuse.

Still hoping to get an answer on this.

Having the same sort issues here. Single homepod paired to apple tv works fine in Plex, but with the stereo pair when you hit pause it pauses video but audio continues for 2 seconds; Pressing play starts video, but audio does not start for 2 seconds.

This issue is not present in any app using apple’s built in player (netflix, etc.), just in Plex. Adjusting audio out of the apple tv to stereo does not help.

I’m having this exact issue with ONE HomePod. I just figured out it had to do with the Experimental Player. I disabled it and now the two second delay seems to be fixed.

This is still a problem with the standard player.

(I cannot test the experimental player as I’m not going to pay for something that has near zero support)

I also have this problem. I haven’t checked Apple for this question. But there are other apps that done export audio to the HomePod.

I have the same issue. Wrote in another thread about HomePod.
That is awful, that this issue is opened for almost a year and Plex guys are keeping silence.
Quick info: I have a single HomePod, that works brilliant in YouTube, Twitchy, iTunes etc, but I can’t get it sound in Plex without switching off/on HomePod in ATV settings any time I want to stream.
Plex team, could you take care of this?
We should get any support on Plex pass right?
