Audio out of sync Apple TV 4K

Others have mentioned this, is it a recognised bug? Don’t remember experiencing this with my older ATV4.
Audio just slightly out of sync but still quite noticeable.

Amazon, Netflix on the Apple TV don’t seem to have the audio sync problems so feel it’s specific to Plex. When you change Apple audio to stereo from 5.1, sync problem improves. No issue with Plex on other clients like the LG Plex app, Kodi, Roku etc.

Using LG C7 Oled TV and using internal speakers.

did you get a solution to this - i have the same issue.

I also have the same issue it appears to be the plex client, as i have tested it with 3 other players and they do not have the problem

Same probleme here on my new ATV 4K and the Plex App.

When the audio line is 5.1 it break up. When it is a Stereo line no problem at all.

I try it on an other ATV 4 - there is no problem.

Both ATV have the same Software level.

I try it with my Samsung TV Plex App - it all worked well.

So I think the combo new Plex App and ne ATV TVOS dont work well :frowning:

What´s about Plex ? Any comments ?

Hi I am also having the sync issue. Its t=starts out fine but the further the movie the worst it gets. I have a roku, samsung smart tv, firetv, and they all work fine. It only happens with apple tv. I haven’t found anywhere a solution to this issue. And its not only me. My friend has an apple tv 4k and is also having the same issue.

Well, if you’d like some help troubleshooting you’ll need to post the following:

Plex media server version
Apple TV Plex app version
Video and audio encoding of the video you are watching

You’re responding to a thread that is at least six months old so it’s really hard to say if you’re having the exact same problem or a new problem.

I have a 4th generation Apple TV (not 4K version though) and also find regularly that there are audio sync issues. The audio is delayed by a fraction of a second on some content, not all.

Plex server is version 1.14.1.5488 running on Ubuntu 18.10. Apple TV app is 1.38 (11485)

I had a look at the encoding of content that plays fine, audio in sync:

Media

  • Video Resolution 1080p
  • Duration 46:43
  • Bitrate 6890 kbps
  • Width 1920
  • Height 1080
  • Aspect Ratio 1.78
  • Container MKV
  • Video Frame Rate PAL
  • Video Profile main

Part

  • Duration 46:43

  • Size 2.25 GB

  • Container MKV

  • Video Profile main

  • Codec H264

  • Bitrate 6698 kbps

  • Language English

  • Bit Depth 8

  • Chroma Location left

  • Chroma Subsampling 4:2:0

  • Color Primaries bt709

  • Color Range tv

  • Color Space bt709

  • Color Trc bt709

  • Frame Rate 25 fps

  • Height 1080

  • Level 4.0

  • Profile main

  • Ref Frames 4

  • Scan Type interlaced

  • Width 1920

  • Display Title 1080i (H.264)

  • Codec AC3

  • Channels 2

  • Bitrate 192 kbps

  • Language English

  • Audio Channel Layout stereo

  • Sampling Rate 48000 Hz

  • Display Title English (AC3 Stereo)

And comparing this with a file that has sync issues:

Media

  • Video Resolution 720p
  • Duration 41:26
  • Bitrate 2229 kbps
  • Width 1280
  • Height 718
  • Aspect Ratio 1.78
  • Container MKV
  • Video Frame Rate 24p
  • Video Profile high

Part

  • Duration 41:26

  • Size 660.62 MB

  • Container MKV

  • Video Profile high

  • Codec H264

  • Bitrate 1845 kbps

  • Bit Depth 8

  • Chroma Location left

  • Chroma Subsampling 4:2:0

  • Color Range tv

  • Color Space bt709

  • Frame Rate 23.976 fps

  • Height 718

  • Level 4.1

  • Profile high

  • Ref Frames 5

  • Scan Type progressive

  • Width 1280

  • Display Title 720p (H.264)

  • Codec AC3

  • Channels 6

  • Bitrate 384 kbps

  • Audio Channel Layout 5.1(side)

  • Sampling Rate 48000 Hz

  • Display Title Unknown (AC3 5.1)

Clear differences are the number of audio channels (2 vs 6), the video profile (main vs high), frame rate (PAL vs 24)

I started having the same issue when I ran the “wireless audio sync” on the Apple TV settings. This fixed a sync issue I had with my HomePod, but screwed up Plex. If I reset “Wireless audio sync” Plex is fixed, but my speakers get unsynched. Really annoying.

Is there a fix other than completely disabling the enhanced player? There was a post about the issue back in January where the plex team acknowledged the issue, but it doesn’t seem to have been fixed.

I have heard a lot apple TV users use Infuse player

Yeah I actually switched to it, only to discover it has the same issue!

Same here… infuse’s player is much better. Bitstreaming and no audio sync issues. Plex has a lot nicer UI though.
