I’ve had this issue a while and just today started looking around the net and found others having this issue.
On my Apple TV 4k devices, we have 3 and they all do this, movie collections can crash the server. Whenever you click a movie, everything loads except the collections and “item like this” stuff. Then about 30 seconds later the collections and movies like this one stuff loads. There’s a noticeable lag but the items appear.
If during that load time click in another movie, maybe click an actor and then click another movie what happens is the queries for all those collection items and “items like this” are still running from the movie you looked at for 1 second and they back up on the server. After maybe 5 movies or so plex just becomes completely unresponsive, everything stops loading, the server disconnects from the web, and it all stops for maybe 15 minutes or so until all the “items like this” and collection queries finally resolve themselves.
I can reproduce this on demand anytime, and looking around on the web a bunch of people have this exact issue. All you need to do is browse a bunch of movies on the Apple TV 4K, click into the movie so you can read the description, then click out and go to another movie. After a handful of attempts plex server comes to a stop. I can see the same effect from the web portal but it doesn’t seem to be as impactful as the Apple TV browsing.
I’d be happy to post console logs or even make a video of reproducing the effect. I figured out it was the queries from watching the console logs while browsing movies. After 2 or 3 movies on the Apple TV I started seeing these errors saying the queries were running too long and I connected the dots with all the “items like” stuff that loads on a delay after looking at movies.
