After almost 10 years from my first report for fixing the Hebrew subtitles issue (can read it here), in the Beta version 7.1.1 (15801), some how that fix disappeared in version 7.2 (15857, 15875).
How can i open an issue to the developers for that?
I’m trying to raise this issue for almost 10 years, and now after they fixed that it disappeared, It’s already been fixed, so why it been removed?
It’s frustrating to report bugs in here when i dont get any response from the developers, or having the right place to report it.
Here is an example subtitle (the issue will appear when there is a question mark or other special characters at the end of row) Hebrew subtitles.zip (139.1 KB)
I checked now, and appearnatlly this was fixed in earlier versions (the earlier version i could check is 2.17 15061)
I didn’t noticed it because i used other app because of that issue, so now i’m using 7.1.1 till it will fixed again.
Yes i saw that in the version changes, i think also that was the problem, i saw in the logs that in the earlier versions there was a Hebrew fonts that it been using, and in the last version it doesn’t use that fonts anymore.
Hah! That’s all very useful info, thank you very much!
Due to an overlook, a specific tool called harfbuzz was removed from the enhanced video player some time ago. That tool is used to render certain subtitles properly. That’s what broke Thai subtitles and sounds like it fixed the bug with Hebrew subtitles that you reported.
So maybe the problem is in that harfbuzz tool which is causing problems with Hebrew subtitles. We’ll look into that. Thank you also for the subtitle file
Hi @sergiou87
Is there any updates? The 7.1.1 beta version is almost expire and I’ll not be able to use it anymore.
I’ll appreciate it if it can be resolved soon…
Yes, that is what we want to do. Well, the problem is actually the opposite: the bug in harfbuzz happens with hebrew subtitles. Thai subtitles were broken because harfbuzz wasn’t included.
But before we report (or even fix) it there, we need to dig into what the actual problem is. We’re 99% sure the problem is in harfbuzz but not 100%
That said, unless I’m missing something, I don’t think we can disable harfbuzz in mpv for certain subtitles It’s an all or nothing kind of thing.
Same here. I’m forced to use another client (Infuse) to be able to watch with Hebrew subtitles properly. This is really such a basic functionality of many other video players, that it just seems strange Plex can’t seem to support it natively.
Please fix this issue that has been discussed in these forums for so many years.
yeah same thing for me also, i really like Plex app interface but a lack of proper Hebrew subtitles support is a deal breaker for me also. i am using infuse for now that has a much better support for subtitles (and not only for Hebrew but more customizable options).
