Running PMS plex pass on an i7 PC running Windows 10 with both HD Home Run Prime (Cable Card) and Extend (OTA) works well enough to record shows although not as well as a dedicated cable company DVR and even Windows Media Center works pretty well. But I need a client that works for non technical users in my household so tried the Roku Ultra and Apple TV 4k. I can watch Amazon Prime and Netflix but the Plex app is extremely limited on both devices. I fear the hype of being able to run a dedicated Plex Pass server as a DVR and use clients to watch and record shows does not meet up with reality of implementation. For example, on the Apple TV when I view the Plex Program Guide it is just one huge list of shows with no way to search either shows nor channels, and no way to record. Roku is a little better but also no way to schedule a show to record. Clearly all of the this is still a work in progress. Sadly I can use Windows Media Center as a reliable full blown DVR with an actual EPG but support for WIndows 7 and Media Center will end in a couple of years. Seems the only real client to DVR implementation is to run Plex as a client on a Windows PCs but then I lose the ability to have a true remote rather than having to control everything with a keyboard/mouse - not cool for the non-tech users here. Going to return the Apple and Roku to the store and having serious reservations about Plex’s ability to actually pull this off as a viable DVR. Any thoughts?
