Apple TV App not playing 5.1 audio music files anymore

I wonder if this related to the same/similar problem on nvidia shield ?

My post was it really needed at this point after months without any updates on this matter? I was waiting for months to get answers and within a few seconds, minutes the cat get out of the bag. Weird and funny at the same time. Fair enough. Now we have an official reply, I hope you will give us some good news in weeks/months to come. Searching for alternative (■■■■■■) solutions to get around this, is not fun at all. Farewell

Maybe, same core player, same issues.

maybe some duplicate logic, but unless they are consolidating the new players, pretty sure the core players are entirely different between IOS and android.

Definitely not the same core players. They’re two completely different operating systems.

It’s a pretty long thread, so you probably missed the previous official replies. There have been several by an actual Plex employee. I’m just basically repeating what’s been said in the thread previously.

Plex uses different video players for Android and iOS/tvOS, but the music player is our own custom player, which is the same across Android and iOS/tvOS. Our music player allows loudness levelling, silence compression, Sweet Fades, gapless playback, more codec support and a bunch of other things that aren’t possible with the native players. We definitely want to bring back the 5.1 support, and are actively looking into it. At this time, I don’t have any further information.

A post was split to a new topic: Music Playback Not Working

Thanks DaveBinM - “actively looking into it” gives me a sliver of hope!

I’ve got a few choice responses to “looking into it”, but I’m saving them for the 1 year anniversary of this thread, which is only a few months away.

2.13 is out. No mention of a fix for the music player.

Valentine’s Day is coming up. It would be nice if Plex showed us some love and fixed the audio player. I did check 2.13 and there was no fix yet.

Nothing about the 5.1 bug on Valentine’s Day and nothing in the latest version 2.14
to think they don’t love us?

Okay, here is the prefect scenario
On March 17th, St. Pats Day, the guy in charge of the schedule gets a bit too drunk and yells out, “Oh, f*** 'em! Let’s fix the audio player”, and 2.16 comes out in April with the updated audio player and the 5.1 fix and maybe even gapless play. That’s my dream anyways.

It’s really a shame!

Tomorrow is the 9 month anniversary of this thread. I’d celebrate and play some music, but then I’d have to use JRiver since Plex isn’t working right now. Sorry. My passive aggressive streak comes out occasionally. Will the next update be the one? I assume we’ll see in the next few weeks. I’m not a betting man, but I’m thinking that I have better odds of getting through the first 2 rounds of March Madness unscathed.

Just a reminder, if you are really desperate, you can convert your multi-channel audio files to video files and then play them. Somewhere in this thread there was a description of how to do that. I have way too many files to go through this process, but if you have the space and time, you might want to do this for now.

Don’t give bad ideas to the Plex teams, they might think that since there is this solution, it’s useless to fix the bug.

J’ai relu l’annonce de la nouvelle version 2.0 de Plex for Apple TV en avril 2019 oĂč il est Ă©crit : «NEW: Plex’s new Apple TV experience with many major enhancements including: etc ». Est-ce lĂ  l’origine du bug 5.1 ? Alors, hsousa, or chfredrickson, or Stevenson-Price, or jam, or gnuaha7, or sergiou87 (les “Plex Employee” qui ont fait les annonces de cette version et des suivantes) pouvez-vous enfin faire quelque chose pour corriger ce put
 de bug 5.1 ?

I re-read the announcement of the new version 2.0 of Plex for Apple TV in April 2019 where it is written that: “NEW: Plex’s new Apple TV experience with many major enhancements including:
”. Is this the origin of the 5.1 bug? So, hsousa, or chfredrickson, or Stevenson-Price, or jam, or gnuaha7, or sergiou87 (the “Plex Employees” who made the announcements of this version and the following versions) can you finally do something to fix this fu
 5.1 bug?

My take on this is that it is a big bug that affects a small group of customers. This is there own hand made audio player and we, the audio only listeners, just aren’t a major part of their business. They have limited resources, there is probably a lot of work involved in fixing it, and we are not high on the list. I recommend that everyone look for alternatives because we have no idea how much longer we are going to have to wait. Some people are using DLNA software. I use JRiver. I haven’t checked Emby lately to see if they fixed their issues.
