Apple TV Build 7.19 (1585) - "Jog Wheel" Scrubbing Issues

Hi all,

Just got my Siri 2nd gen remote and was exiting to see the latest beta added support. However, I can’t seem to get the Jog Wheel scrolling to function on either the MPV based player or the old player. Does this need to be manually enabled somewhere?

Thanks

It doesn’t need to be enabled. If you pause, then hold your finger in place on the jog wheel for a second or so, you’ll see the jog wheel UI appear on screen, and you can then scroll through the progress bar

Thanks Dave. That’s how it’s been working for other apps that support it (AppleTV+, Netflix, etc), but that’s not functioning on Plex. Device is an AppleTV 4K, not the 2021 release version.

Should be the exact same on both, but I can plug in my older Apple TV 4K later to test it (can confirm it works on the 2021 device)

I can confirm that using a 2021 ATV 4k with the new remote running 14.6, trying with mp4 and mkv containers, with both x265 and h264, I do NOT get the jog wheel. I have tried both the old player and the advanced player, to no avail, so as dklein says it is a no go.

UPDATE: After I restarted my Apple TV I tried again. It works if I tap on the back, forward, or down arrows, but NOT if I tap and hold on the UP arrow. Since I saw it demoed and used it everywhere else on the UP arrow, I never tried the other 3 locations. Could it be it was just not enabled for the up arrow on the “wheel”? @dklein, did you try those other locations?

@ebernet, I’ve tried all four locations. Typically I start with the forward location out of habit :).

After another manual restart tonight on the AppleTV (Settings->System->Restart), Jog wheel functionality is working as expected.

Thanks

I’ve been having inconsistent results. Sometimes I have no troubles getting the jog wheel, other times I need to restart the Apple TV before it comes back. It may be an Apple TV issue and not a Plex issue, but it is not consistent.

Today Apple TV OS 14.7 came out, still the same issue with the beta. The trackpad responds in the lower hemisphere of the wheel, but not the top of it. I do not see this issue in other apps so I do not think it is the remote, also pressing up works and swiping up works, but the bottom half and the forward and back expose the jog wheel (with the point over whichever part of the Lowe hemisphere you placed your finger down), but does not register you are resting your finger on the wheel when it is above the forward and back parts of the wheel.
