Apple TV os16 subtitles and close captioning

Figured out the exact issue with subtitles since tvos16 update. Cannot have closed captioning and forced subtitles at same time.
If the audio is English and you have “closed captioning” (English text at bottom of screen) it will not play foreign language translation (a character is speaking in Spanish, Japanese, etc),
If you have “forced” subtitles, where if the audio is English and a character speaks in a foreign language the subtitles will show the English translation at the bottom of the screen, but there will be no English “closed captioning” (English text of English audio) at the bottom of the screen. Will only play one or the other.
“Regret” is too small a word for what I have for leaving my Apple TV on “auto update”. System was completely stable prior to this upgrade. Now endless frustration

Just wondering what you’re trying to achieve and why you want to enable CC for the English parts and forced subtitles for the non-English parts. Doesn’t that mean you want to have a full / regular subtitle up at all the times?

Thanks, Tom. Yes that’s exactly what I mean, but since the new Apple TVos16 update it’s one or the other. Can’t have both. My hearing isn’t great, so I’m really hopping for some solution.

You don’t need Plex to show 2 subtitles at once (not sure this was possible ever). Just pick the regular subtitle that covers the entire dialog (not just the forced parts).

Thanks. But that’s the problem. When I select subtitles I get either or, not both. If I select English SRT I’ll get English subtitles but no translation during foreign speaking parts, if there’s another “English SRT” available and I scroll down and select it, now I get foreign translation but no English subtitles for English speaking characters.
Is there a way to upload a short video to these forums to show what I’m talking about?
Prior to the new os16 update, I’d select “English SRT” or one of the other choices listed under subtitles and I’d get both: English subtitles for English audio AND, simultaneously, English translations for any foreign language speakers.
The weird part is that it seems no one else is having this issue. I think I may have to try something like reset Apple TV to factory settings or something.
Thanks again for your reply. I’m very familiar with using Plex and it’s subtitles capabilities and have never had an issue. Sorry if I’m not explaining myself properly

That sounds more like an issue with your media / subtitles of your files – nothing linked to the tvOS 16 update (or a Plex update). I thinks it’s rather unusual to get stuck with subtitles that have text for the English parts but not the foreign language elements… maybe a really bad source?

Maybe. But never happened before and now happens with every single media file since update. And the ones that used to work perfectly no longer do.
Does this forum allow screenshots or videos to be posted?

it does

I really appreciate your help and quick responses. Something I haven’t mentioned because it’s not Plex related is that since the update other strange things have been happening. When we’re watching tv via the Apple TV the door to the DVD player (yes, we still have one. It’s built into the amp/audio tuner) opens and closes randomly and repeatedly during viewing.
I assume it has something to do with the Apple universal remote feature. Also, the Apple TV remote no longer turns on the tv, just the Apple TV hardware and the aforementioned amp/audio tuner.
I’d read elsewhere that a failing HDMI cable can cause weird issues, but don’t see how in the world that could possibly effect subtitles.
Point is, big mess since update. Something is amiss.
Anyhow, appreciate your help.
