I have 3 Apple TV 4Ks and have set all player settings exactly the same on all 3 Apple TVs. One of them has no problem playing DVR content at original quality. The other two won’t let me select original quality playback and has to convert, which causes audio sync issues and slow skipping.
How can I get my other two Apple TVs to play back at original quality?
I’m running latest Plex Server on Synology DSM 7, and running current Plex client versions on all Apple TVs (I checked for updates in App Store). Also, all connections are hard wired Cat5e connections.
Can all TVs play the desired resolution / quality ?
Are the AppleTV’s connected to the TVs with a cable capable of carrying the data (cheap cables give poor results)
(Apple is sneaky here) – Are the AppleTV Display settings configured to display the resolution (this is dependent on TV and CABLE)
Diagnostic -
Take the HDMI cable from the one which works and test it with another failing unit.
Have the ATV 4K retest / update the display settings
Restart Plex app (It will re-read what the TV and ATV can do)
Test.
Cabling is extremely important when you get into 4K resolution.
Thanks @ChuckPa. After adjusting Apple TV display settings I got everything working the same on all three AppleTVs now.
Since you are so knowledgeable maybe you can help with another issue I’m having. I upgraded my Synology NAS to DSM 7 in April and had to re-add my HDHomeRun and recreate my Live TV & DVR. Now I cannot maintain my DVR Schedule on all three of my Apple TVs because the DVR Schedule option does not appear on top of the guide anymore. As a workaround, I can edit my DVR Schedule on my browser, iPhone, iPad, & Roku TVs just fine. This appears to be a bug on Apple TV but I don’t see anyone else discussing it. Any suggestions?
