Apple TV: Plex Pass releases?

Hi all,

Just wondering if there is a PP release for the Apple TV app? Im having heaps of issues and many awesome plex employees have mentioned in the ATV forum that they are working on releases. Is there anything that PPass members can get early? I noticed in settings you can change a setting from “production” ?

Plex pass is for the server version.

There is/was a Apple TV beta client app allegedly but I can’t find it.

they had a beta sign up in the spring of this year, not sure its still open though.

Is the ATV Plex app universal with the other iOS apps, just one version for all iOS platforms?

No, but the sign up is the same. One of the questions will be what device you have. You will be put into the appropriate Beta (assuming there is room). I don’t know if there is a user limit or not.

Users are added to the Beta in batches. And then once accepted, you will get the next beta, not the current one, so you will need to wait until the next beta is available before you can test.

Is everyone happy with the Apple TV Plex app?

I have no real problem with it.
But my goto client is Shield and that is mainly because I don’t like the Apple remote.

I like the new Apple remote. You can also use the app on your phone or tablet, if you prefer.

I actually bought the ATV3 remote and for every day use its better.

I think the real issues with the Plex app for Apple TV are:

-very limited codec support (no DTS, no mkv etc) so lots of transcoding. This is an ATV player limitation and unlike Plex builds their own player like Infuse etc have done it won’t be solved.
-UI is dictated by Apple so I suspect Plex will have a lot of difficulty adding features like DVR client recording setup etc in the app once they release it on other platforms (hope I’m wrong)
-the UI can be slow to update requiring you click the ‘reload’ button.

I LOVE the ATV4 and hopefully Plex puts more frequent effort on its development.

I haven"t had any issues with the Plex app on ATV. It has worked very well for me. Some people have not been happy with the ATV4 or it’s remote, but I have have been very pleased with it.
