Apple TV beta expired and no update

Looks like the Apple TV beta expired and there is no new beta. I’m enrolled and getting updates on iPhone but no longer on Apple TV. The beta is no longer visible in Test Flight on Apple TV

Have you Powered down your ATV from the power source as 8.46 is definitely available

Yes, I even left the beta on my iPhone and rejoined and it’s still not there on Apple TV using the same Apple ID.

Have you tried signing out and back in ATV

No and I’d rather not mess with all my stuff by signing out and back in. The beta app simply isn’t updated and available. Plex needs to fix this

I have exactly the same problem and it just started with a message when I try to run Plex saying that the app has expired for testing and go to test flight to check for a new app.

Now I am unable to get into Plex at all, but there’s obviously something wrong as there is no new version available in TestFlight ?

Have you figured anything out yet?

I guess the million dollar question is without an update available in Tesfflight, how does one even get by the “needs to be updated” message to be able to use Plex at all?

There doesn’t appear to be any way to roll it back and I’m afraid to delete the Plex app and reinstall it as I would lose all my settings?

To me it looks like that the tvOS Plex app (old version) has no more beta releases and the tvOS Plex Experience is still in preview, not in being released as betas yet. At least v8.46 isn’t showing up in my TestFlight (maybe someone needs to push a button somewhere?)

To join the Preview releases, scroll down to the tvOS section of this post:

I followed the directions there and was able to download the tvOS Plex Experience PREVIEW app.

Once there are beta releases for the Plex Experience app, they should show up for you like before in TestFlight.

This is all assuming you WANT the Plex Experience on your Apple TV ;^)

I joined the Plex Experience Preview app by downloading it onto my phone and then as instructed, went and downloaded the Testflight from the Apple Store.

Ran TestFlight and there was no Plex Experience Preview app appearing within it.

Thank you for your attempt to help, but I don’t know what else to do at this point and all I wanna do is run Plex and view my content as normal.

Any other ideas?

Doug

I followed these steps even though Plex Experience Betas are already installed on my iOS/iPadOS devices:

I Have Not Previously Joined on iOS/iPadOS

  1. Open and accept this link on your iOS/iPadOS device TestFlight Invite: Plex Experience Preview
  2. Install the TestFlight app from the App Store on the Apple TV
  3. Open TestFlight on Apple TV and install Plex Experience Preview.

That did it for me. I hope it works out for you…

Thanks for this. Worked for me. Maybe a word up the chain-of-command is in order. I know that rarely works. So simple to just announce this in plain English:

  • TestFlight Plex beta testing pulled on Apple TV
  • “Plex Experience Preview” replaces beta (whether you want it or not)
  • Should have added this info to the broadcast email about Plex Pass price increase
  • Do this to to get the invite for TestFlight to save yourself endless futile searching

I merely deleted the beta app and went into the TVOS AppStore and downloaded the current version and logged in. You get the plex.tv/link - 4 digit code to complete the login, and I did not see anything out of ordinary. working fine for me, However, your mileage may vary.

It would be nice if Plex made it so a new version, if there is going to be one, in TestFlight available. but it expired and was not going wait around and see how long it may take to get it going again. If a new one shows up eventually, I’ll take a look and see if I want to give it a go.

Well that is a old version for ATV - 8.45,

Instructions above will allow a newer version.

There is also a Testflight update coming Tuesday to HEVC Transcoding

It may be the old version, but it’s better than nothing. I guess I don’t understand why they didn’t post a new version when the old one expired, instead of jumping through hoops to get the new one

I suppose because it’s not a beta release but a pre-beta release called Preview. It will most likely move to ‘beta” at some point just like the mobile versions did eventually.

Granted its being defined as a “preview”, however the same means to access it are being used, at least for IOS/TVOS, etc, you need “TestFlight” to access it, they basically set it up as a completely new App as far as TestFlight is concerned, the old one is gone from TestFlight now.

If it eventually moves to a “beta”, I would hope they would not do that with yet another need for an “invite” to set things up, just seems like unnecessary steps since all they needed to do as far as I can see is to have posted the “preview” as the next version of the TVOS beta.

It’s been a few days now but it was really straight forward to update to the beta stream on iOS/iPadOS via TestFlight…

I’m a bit confused; I’ve deleted the Plex TestFlight app and installed the standard version of Plex from the App store to continue to use Plex, but I now see there is another beta out, out do I get it back? it says in the instructions to open TestFlight and install the Plex app but I cannot find anything to install?

I can’t seem to find the link that lets us get the TestFlight Invite. Can someone help me with that?

All “Plex Experience Preview” builds have been removed from TestFlight, so none are listed on AppleTV at this point (which was confusing to me). It’s been announced here.
The β for the regular version of TestFlight had expired, so the situation was the same: no build listed, and installed apps didn’t launch at all.
It might have been corrected just now though: I got a notification a new build was avilable that supported AppleTV. I’ll check when I get back home, but it might be back!
In any case, the instructions to find the new β builds are listed here.
