Server Version#: 1.8.0.1913
Player Version#: Apple TV App 2.1 (12235)
Updated Plex Apple TV app last night. Noticed today while watching, after 10 seconds or less, the video will freeze for a few seconds, and when it starts playing, the video is “x” amount of seconds ahead, where “x” is the length of time the video was frozen for. So it’s almost as if the time of the movie or show keeps going, but the video just freezes every few seconds.
I’d suggest you update to a newer version of the server and Apple TV app, and see if you can reproduce still. The current newest version of the server is 1.18.0.1944, and Apple TV app is 2.8.
I am having this exact same issue and it’s only just started happening. My server version is 1.18.0.1913 and if I hit check for update it says “Up to date”. This only seems to happen if my movies are transcoding audio but it never used to do this. This happens on my Apple TV and on my iPad app.
I’m having the same issue. This seems to only happen when playing live TV from an HDHomerun Extend on the Apple TV, freezing every handful of seconds. I tried the same feed on Plex Media Player (Mac) and the web UI clients with no freezing issues at all.
How can I help provide logs? From the server or the Apple TV?
Uploaded are my log files. Freeze happened just prior to the grab. Log file is from my AppleTV. Also attached is the XML for the movie that was playing though this can happen with any movie/video.
I am experiencing a similar problem where the playback will pause for a few seconds, maybe 5-10 seconds and continue for a 5 seconds then again freeze and process continues. Both audio and video stops at the same time and resumes at the same point. This stuttering can begin at any point in the video, from start or – get this: 40 minutes in! This is the core of the issue that makes me think this isnt caused by bandwidth.
The behavior is similar to a streaming video that does not have sufficient bandwith and must buffer. I have run Plex from a MacPro 5,1 with a wired ethernet CAT5 to the wireless router Asus RT66U. I have also used a completely different setup with a Synology DS1019+ (capable of 4K streaming) with a wired connection to a Google fiber router-modem picked up in 2019 and wirelessly streaming to the AppleTV. There is no difference in how much the videos stopping except newer digitally filmed videos does not nearly stutter as much as older film-based videos. These older film based videos are unwatchable. Sometimes unplugging the AppleTV resolved the issue, usually not.
