Apple TV remote. Button assignments

Just an idea; I noticed that on the ATV remote the buttons play/pause and the button in the centre of the ring have the same function. Would it be possible to assign "runtime" preferences to the centre button so it would show some kind of menu for the item playing at that time? So e.g. switch on/off subtitles (i have tvshows where some episodes have subtitles that are ok and some are completely wrong) or whatever other useful functions

They do not fulfil the same function and you may want to try using the up/down,select etc whilst a media file is playing ;)

PlexConnect uses the native player on the ATV, which has chapter skipping, sub select, speaker select etc built in.

example: Select will give you the PrePlay screen, Play won't.

He said “runtime” I assumed that meant while media was playing.

I have to admit i completely overlooked the audio/sub button in the pre play screen. That is really nice. Still when playing a movie/tv show, if you press select it will pause/play. If you keep it pressed it will allow you to select where to play the audio.

i wondered whether it was possible to add extra functionality to the select button that now performs pause/play, as there is a separate button for that.

However you said that plxconnect is using the native player. Does that mean that when playing you don't have control over the button functions anymore?

The functionality you have requested and more is already there! It may vary slightly form file to file e.g. it cannot show chapter marks if your file does not have them.

f00b4r, first of all, i think the app is great. I did try up down left right while playing and noticed their functions. When i press the select button shortly while playing it pauses playback, as does the play/pause button. That's what i was saying. Anyway, carry on the good work!

NP, we are limited by using the native player but it should provide all the functionality you need e.g. turn subs on and off, skip to chapter etc..

Apple being Apple often do not inform users of functionality, assuming that they will always find it themselves; MacOSXHints have a fantastic site that owes a lot of its content to helping users finding this 'hidden' functionality :)
