The AppleTV app is basically useless now. And unfortunately that is all we use in my house, 4 AppleTV’s.
It fails to open at all, a lot.
The AppleTV remote seems extremely unresponsive (but works fine as soon as you exit Plex App)
The rows of movies jitters and seems to scroll in 10px blocks.
Movies/Shows will occasionally jump backwards ~20 seconds while you are watching them
The Plex App will crash completely occasionally
This is really, really bad. Is it possible to roll back the app in the app store to a previous version while you guys address the issues with the latest release?
My 4 AppleTV’s have been updated for about 12 hours now. I haven’t noticed any of the issues I listed above happening. I think whatever the update did worked for me. Thanks!
This is my feedback post update which I did the day of release.
Immediate noticeable improvement apart from the Tidal page. Everything was zipping along nicely until I went to browse Tidal content and then the sluggishness reappeared. In fact it was worst than ever, I had to force close the app as it froze for at least a couple of minutes.
Add to that, each time I’ve used the app I’ve noticed a slow down. A slight jerkiness here and there but tolerable. Until now when I had to force close the app again because the home screen kept sticking. And again.
So is it an issue with cache? As it builds it up? I’m ignorant with the mechanics of it. All I know is if I use MrMC or Infuse 7 to access my Plex server I have no issues.
The latest update seems to not only have nailed the browsing lag but also finally fixed the slow load of my movie library and individual items. Very happy indeed. Well done dev team.
I’m not using Apple TV, just regular Plex server.
I just updated to the latest Apple version 10.14.6 and when I open Plex on my TVs, the thumbnails rendering is slow. When I try to play a movie or show, Plex just keeps on spinning.
I also have the latest Plex version, 4.57.4
Have the latest beta release of Apple TV app and the movie still have a problem. When you click on play, nothing happens for about 15/20 seconds and then the movie stars to load. The TV shows are terrible, sometimes taken 30 or 40 seconds to open the tv shows (ie MASH), then loading an episode is straight away sometimes, but 15/20 seconds to load other times. When moving from completing one episode and staring the next, this can also take 30/40 seconds to start the next one. One rare occasions the the TV show opens straight away and loads the episode straight away (but very rare)
I am so frustrated with the lack of fixes for the problems many of us are having with the Apple TV app that I have resorted to using a different player. I am now using MrMC ($10AU) which plays everything with no delays/hiccups/errors or transcoding and runs straight away when you want to watch something, be it TV Show, Music or Movies. The Plex app used to be so good, but with every update it has become worse, without many the problems being fixed. It just seems that Plex does not even care about it’s paying Plex Pass members. So sad.
Hi, could you please advice do I have the same issue or is it something else?
Apple TV 4K (2017). UI is slow. When I browse films their covers may appear with delays. When I enter a film I see only first 3 (three) actors’ circles, and in a while (a few seconds) I get full list of actors with photos. If I start playback before the moment - fail, after the moment the playback goes without an issue.
Meantime when I interact with my Plex server via browser - no issues with UI at all.
