When i launch Plex app on my Samsung q9fn smart tv today i get Plex start screen to choose Modern and Classic layout. It looks like Plex app updated without my demand. And now i’m expeirencing with slow and lagging gui. Much slow than it was before.
I reinstall Plex app but this does not help. I also tried to switch between Classic and modern layout, disable App Background and Datails Background.
UPD: LG TV owners report the same problem here.
UPD 26/01/2022: I got Plex client update on my tv yersterday. Player Version 5.29.1 now. New design and same performance issue. Plex team completly ignore this issue.
Same here on my LG TV (webOS 3.5). After switching to the Modern Layout, the entire interface became really laggy and sluggish, everything loads extremely slowly.
Same issue here, with my 2019 Samsung TV. My TV received the new app and the entire app ran slow. The TV was even lagging when I went to quit the app and it had to switch back to live TV.
Same here on Samsung 2018 Tizen 4, Plex version 5.25.3. It felt like the UI was getting slower since the move to 5.25.1 but even more noticeable since the option to enable modern layout.

Same problem as everyone on the forum
Since the last update with the modern layout.
The app has become slow and laggy. The experience is bad.
Changing back to classic and turning off all background options doesn’t solve the problem. I will test this on my samsung but i expect the problem will be the same.
Hi memmorik_mail_ru, thanks for posting this problem I’m having the same issues.
I was wondering if it is possible for you to change the title and also add LG.
Maybe this will also attract the attention of LG people and show Plex that the problem isn’t limited to Samsung only.
Just throwing this out there. I have a 2018 OLED and it is not exhibiting a change of slowness. Have the users with this issue looked at changing the DNS manually on there tv to either…
1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8 rather than accepting a automatically configured internet connection same as your ISP provided router.
DNS servers have nothing to do with the performance of the app UI. A DNS server is contacted exactly once at startup of the app. You wouldn’t notice if that takes 20 ms or 200 ms.
It doesn’t matter if my ISPs DNS is reliable or not. Or if I use it or not.
DNS has nothing to do with the problem discussed here, so please let’s stop the offtopic.
Well, same here. A 2020 LG with WebOS 5.10.30 . I have disabled backgrounds, have enabled the “reduced motion” option and it is still very annoying. My guess is that the app is not native, because Netflix and Apple TV+ are extreme pleasure to use without any lag. I’d definitely appreciate the older, better working Plex app even without the eye candy.
PS. I truly hope this trend will be reversed otherwise few updates into the future will send the app in my hatelist.
Same on Samsung UE55NU8002. Everything was fine before the update.
UI during stream (and settings for auido, subtitles, etc. is working fine), only the UI in the library is laggy.
Just adding my voice too, same for me on my Q9FN, it’s horrible to use now, even the spinning circle while it waits for my HDDs to spin up is juddery as hell.
