I have a 4th Gen Apple TV that has recently started exhibiting a strange behavior ad has problems playing ALL video. For all video it automatically defaults to play mode Convert Automatically quality. It will start playing fine, albeit a little low in picture quality but after about a minute of play, the screen image starts to tear and becomes unviewable.
If I go into the playback options and choose Play original quality, it plays at full resolution just fine.
I am running Plex on a Windows server on a separate network segment from the ATV, but the network segment is defined in the Plex server as a local network.
- My plex media server is running Version 1.28.2.6151
- Apple TV is up to date running 16.0 (20J73)
- ATV Plex app version 8.8.2(1)
This issue occurs during playback of all video both from my Plex server and a friend’s shared Plex server. It occurs on the hosted video from the Plex servers as well as when playing the Preview videos before a feature (assuming this is streamed video)
I do not have this issue when using a very old Roku stick on the same videos and network/video setup. I don’t see this issue when playing video from my server from outside my house on other players such as LG Tv player or Samsung TV player. This seems like an issue specific to my Apple TV. I am not 100% it is not a hardware issue, but before I pull the trigger on a new ATV to new Roku, I want to see if anyone has any idea as to what may be going on.
