Hi,
I have a mkv file with Dolby Vision (profile 5). Last week I was able to play it without problem on my AppleTV. No issues, Direct Play.
This week is giving me an error that cannot direct play nor transcode the file.
iPhone can Direct Play without issues.
What could have happened?
I thought I was going crazy last night. Same thing on iPad. Not sure it was a plex change or iOS though.
Did you update iPadOS? I haven´t update AppleTV.
But I did update MacOS to 15.2 RC, although I was already on 15.2 Beta.
iPhone on 18.2 RC Direct Plays without a problem.
Seems a Plex problem.
Anyone from the support/dev team can enlighten us on this?

I didn’t say I just updated. I just happened to play a show and saw the error last night. It’s v8.43, I updated on 11/27 and on iPadOS 18.1.1, updated the day it came out.
Ok ok. But doesn’t seem related to 18.1.1.
I can play the file on iOS 18.2 and on iPadOS 18.1.1.
My problem is on appleTV.
Seams like some sort of profile on Plex isn’t working or recognising the device correctly. Simply because they already played that files days before.

Exact same problem here. Earlier the files were playing without any issues and then suddenly started facing the issue. iPhone is able to Direct Play (iOS 18.2).
Did anyone find a workaround for this?
Infuse, when a third party makes a better player than the official it’s a shame for Plex
there are more and more problems, it becomes boring, especially when you pay for this solution
(infuse is not free too, but much better than Plex ugly player)
Does the solution you gave on the other topic works for every file?
I can’t understand how no one from Plex reads this or at least acknowledges so we can hope for a fix

The workaround in the other topic doesn’t work for me unfortunately.
Unfathomable that there has been no response from Plex at all. This breaks about 50% of my library.

Same issue, my appleTVs can’t play half of my movies right now. Hopefully someone and plex will chime in soon.
There is some progress here:
File is Unplayable. DoVi (Profile 5) color space is not supported
Not work for me, I just use infuse instead
An employee asking about unrelated transcoding is not progress. They have yet to simply even acknowledge Direct Play for DV5 has stopped working.
Plex on Mac (15.2) via Safari or Chrome - “Playback Error Conversion failed. A required codec could not be found or failed to install.” plus some other error messages.
Plex on Apple TV (18.3) - starts playing and audio disappears
Plex app on Mac - plays all content
Very frustrating.
Really pathetic they can instantly break it but take weeks to put it back.
Indeed, same here, no problem with direct play on iPhone an iPad and MacBooks, but none of my 4K movies want to play anymore. Tried all setting combos 
This has apparently been fixed:
Updated my Apple TV and Plex Client App today and rebooted.
And my 3rd (latest) Gen apple tv running on ethernet using Dolby Vision still looks way oversaturated everybody has an orange skin super bright. Unwatchable. Automatically convert works to cover the error but DV is still broken.
So no change before or after this patch.
My Firetv Max 4k plays it Just fine on the same TV. Using ethernet to the same plex server.
