Yesterday new firmware was released for the AppleTV. But with PlexConnect running on my ATV’s it seems they cannot find the update server. Only when I set the DNS to my router IP adres instead of my Syno the update is found. Why is PlexConnect (running on my Syno) not routing my ATV’s update request correctly?
You need to change your settings.cfg to prevent appletv update = False
Then restart plexconnect. Then you can update over the air.
Alternatively you can put your Apple TV in dfu mode and hook it to itunes and update it that way. This requires the silver remote to enter dfu.
Hmmm, sounds high tech to me. Temporary change the dns ip on the atv is easier for me. Thanks for clearing this up

To answer this question directly, plexconnect is designed to stop ATV updates incase an update stops plexconnect from functioning. By blocking the update it means if your not technical you don't have to try and restore the ATV to a previous version.
Yes I totaly understand the reason and I do not mind to tinker a bit here and there. I’ll figure it out, no problem.
Love PlexConnect btw. Since I have it running I cannot stop using it, it is just brilliant! 
I can’t agree more, there is a lot of great users and dev’s contributing to this project. It just takes time for everything to come together but as long as everyone works as a team and remains patient I only see amazing new features coming in the future. 
Just for reference, here's exactly what you need to do:
- In your PlexConnect folder on your computer, find and open "Settings.cfg"
- Find the line that says "prevent_atv_update = True"
- Change "True" to "False"
- Save the file, restart PlexConnect
Or... turn off plexconnect and change the DNS on aTV back to auto vs it pointing to the machine's IP that was running plexconnect. When update is complete, reverse the process.
I did the low-tech procedure by switching IP’s, updated the aTV’s and also my Syno at the same time. No problemo
There is a new ATV firmware? I missed something? What’s the changelog?
