The 3 I had a go with today and while initially plexeconnect worked, after returning to the main menu the update came down.
So it didn't seem to be automatic.....So was wondering if I could make a change to plexconnect to block the request to whereever the change comes from so my atv2 can remain as it is for the time being. Is this possible?
Tomer, it is probably not a good idea, for you or for others, to spread your files and keys around especially without posting orthoganal's disclaimer about security risks.

IS THIS A RISK FOR ME TOO? I understood from the announcement your talking about that it's a risk to the downloaders but not to the uploaders. and it's the downloaders decision to count on me or not.
My point is we shouldn’t be making people think there are no risks, when there are. I also think it would only take one incident of an iTunes security breach to really get Apple’s back up.
Yeah I don’t want any one in trouble and I have confidence in the community with coming up with a solution.
But I’ve been lucky my secondary atv was in plex connect all day yesterday, so I’m going to kill the external dns lookup is that it it can’t go talking to apple and downloading the channel updates.
Later on I might figure out how to forwarding to Netflix working only. As a temporary solution this will work for me.

doesn't it uses https too? and it's not a good solution cause most of the people-the ones that don't have netflix (non usa) can't use it. and in the usa there's many people using netflix.
Everyone in my family swears that they did NOT choose to update the AppleTV. Anyone know what DNS address it hits to pull an update? Or IP address? Googling isn't finding it for me. But I want to tweak PlexConnect to prevent auto-updating, in case Apple decides to break PlexConnect more thoroughly...
there is no choice. On my first Apple tv, it was left over night in plexconnect, so yesterday when I got home plex connect still worked - until I dropped back to the main menu of the apple tv.. Then a couple of seconds later I saw the new disney channels just appear.
On my second apple tv - which is still in the plex connect menus (it's never been back out to the main menu), I've left it there, and changed the DNS on PlexConnect to be an invalid address - so it may escape the update....of course means netflix, itunes etc all doesn't work. But given its in a bedroom and plex is more important for me, I'm happy with this while the proper solution is finalised.

Family might be right... this was not an iOS update (which is supressed with PlexConnect), but an update to the aTV's homescreen - and that is pulled every now and then.
If I only use the ATV for plexconnect, can I remove the google dns? and add a random number, as I'd like to prevent losing my plexconnect in the future, as I have 6 ATV's all for media centre purposes
The problem with a random Number as the IP for DNS is that if an ATV does my get Internet access you only get 2 icons on the home screen, settings and home sharing.
I followed the guide on my Mac by using Apple Configurator, and was able to restore PlexConnect functionality on my AppleTV.
On a side note, for those willing to have their AppleTVs without a proper DNS server address, in order to try avoiding future updates from Apple, but still being able to access Netflix, maybe someone could come up with a way to add a hosts file to the AppleTV containing Netflix's IP addresses. Just a thought...

It would be much easier to just route the DNS address for the update check nowhere. It's highly likely that they have one pool of servers to process updates, possibly even with a single DNS address. At least, it's unlikely that the machines serving updates are doing other things.
aTV requests it's home screen content with EVERY startup - and I guess even in between. They "just" changed the homescreen links from http to https. No chance to stop this - other than unplugging your ethernet cable. But then you are stuck with only two icons...
