AppleTV can't play next episode

This has seemingly been a bug for ages - had hoped that updates would fix it since it did work initially.

The issue:
When I start playing a series, at the end I would press back and be presented with the “Play next” screen. In some cases it would perform a countdown that I can then skip to play the next episode. In these cases it works fine. However, after every second episode or so the countdown timer no longer appears and only a play option is available - problem is, selecting the episode to play does nothing. I can see the animation when selecting the next episode to be played, but it does nothing. Only way to fix this is to go back to the series screen and select the next episode myself. While not a large issue, having to constantly do this is getting rather stale.

Had a browse on google and looks like this is a somewhat popular issue not limited to AppleTV.

Things I tried:

  • Removed + added plex server container
  • Deleted + reinstalled AppleTV app
    (yes, turned off and on again - no difference)

Both of these solutions had no effect. Pretty sure this is a bug, since the episodes can play normally (when it works), but then behaves differently over time. So, a buglet.

I’m having the same issue on my Apple TV recently. On that “Plex Next” screen pressing enter on the next episode does nothing. Even after multiple clicks. I have to exit all the way back to the episode selection screen of the show and find the next episode to pay from there.

Also, if the play next screen does work, it does not keep subtitles enabled, even though they are checked from the menu upon checking. I have to disable subtitles, then re-enable the subtitles for them to load. Using SRT subtitles.

Same with the subtitles. I suppose I’ll have to send something every three months so the post can remain open. Would be great if this issue makes it to the devs

I was watching some more episodes yesterday and I noticed that I don’t have to disable the subtitles on the next episode. I just bring down the menu and click on the already checked “English” subtitles that is selected and they start showing on the screen again. So definitely a glitch.

This is still an issue. Can a developer look into this? It’s relatively easy to replicate. I’ve replicated it about 6 / 7 times today. I’m sure to replicate it a couple times more (every time I play a series / anime).
