AppleTV client won't resume episodes after sleeping

Player Version#: 8.28 (7384)

I don’t know if this is related to this issue I reported yesterday, but I found another issue where trying to play an episode after sleeping the AppleTV doesn’t work.

How to reproduce:

  1. Watch a TV episode on AppleTV
  2. While the episode is playing, sleep the AppleTV through the control center
  3. Come back to finish the episode, and press “play” only for the little scrubber thumbnail to appear and nothing else
  4. The episode will not play unless you go back to the episode listing and select the episode again

I’ve seen the client occasionally requiring me to click the play/pause button of the remote several times, but so far it’s always resumed for me.
On what Apple TV model and tvOS version are you experiencing this?

It’s an Apple TV 4K (A1842) running tvOS 17.1 (21K69).
