Plex on AppleTV hangs on playing next episode

Server Version#: 4.116.1
Player Version#: 8.28 (7384)

Ahoy-hoy,

I’ve decided to try the official Plex clients, and have run into a new bug. When watching a TV show, Plex hangs on playing the next episode. The screen will go black, and the little spinner animation will run. The screen will go black, and nothing. I’ve waited several minutes, and the player just sits there. It will play the episode once I press the Play/Pause button twice.

If there is any other information that would be helpful, please do let me know.

Thanks,
Quentin

Do you see the post play screen with the up next episode and timer?

Affirmative. The countdown timer does not count down however. I’ll get the end of the previous episode playing on the left, then the next episode highlighted on the right with the Play icon. I click that, and get the behavior I described earlier.

Latest Developments: The “next episode countdown” now counts down, but still goes to the next episode paused. I double checked my settings, and I have auto play turned on.

And now, the Plex client for AppleTV will not play the next TV episode. It does everything I initially reported, except the play/pause button does nothing anymore. I have to go back to the content listings and select the next episode. Infuse can play all of my content with no issues.

So back to Infuse with me. I much prefer the Plex interface, but playing videos properly is kind of important to me.

OK. I was trying to reproduce this weekend but could not. If you are willing to get the apple tv logs after it happens it would be appreciated.

Is your audio setup any kind of airplay device?
HomePods etc? If so it’s long since reported.

oh yeah. forgot about that issue.

Yeah there was this issue and audio dropping out after several minutes using AirPlay.
DaveBinnM was on the case before the redundancies.
The audio dropouts are cured by turning the new audio engine off.
I don’t recall if the stuck playback required the same or if it also needed the new video engine to also be off.

Sounds like this AirPlay bug is what is getting me. I’ll mark SambaDrome’s explanation as the solution.

Edit: I haven’t tried turning off the various engines. I’m going back to Infuse for a while. But hopefully this info can help someone else.
