AppleTV old remote controls

I have two 4k first gen AppleTV’s with the older black touch pad remote.

On one, I can get Plex to skip forward and back 10seconds by lighting touching the remote touch pad on the left or right side.

On the other, toughing simply shows the 10sec skip icon on the scrub bar but to actually get Plex to jump I have to PRESS the touch pad.

I can’t find any setting on either Plex or AppleTV to explain this.

Any ideas?

Have you tried?

That’s not an option with the touch pad remote, only with the latest silver click wheel remote.

So your saying Resetting does nothing

Correct, quitting the Plex app and rebooting the AppleTV both did not change anything.

Edit: also tried resetting the remote, no change.

I think the remote may be the issue, even pressing the touch bar is difficult to get it to skip.

The 1st Apple KB article linked by @SE56 specifically distinguishes the troubleshooting for the different remote models. The described procedure describes how to restart the remote… not the Apple TV.

I know from personal experience those remote sometimes act up. I once had a ticket with Apple where they suggested I buy a new remote (and later a new Apple TV). If you google for issues with the old remote, you’ll find too many such issues.
I’ve not had that such issues with the new versions (fingers crossed).
I know, that’s not helpful… the 1st troubleshooting link can sometimes fix things though; just stick to the guide.

I now see the part about resetting the remote itself. It didn’t help :frowning:

Well your next best option is to look for a Second hand remote that is compatible.

There seems to be a lot of Universal remotes for the ATV that are inexpensive
