Hey guys wondering if anyone is having sign in issues on Plex for AppleTv. The app works on my iPhone and MacBook with no issues. However I have 3 AppleTv’s running in my house. All 3 will not let me sign in. On the normal home screen where you would normally login, it just has a spinning circle. Then goes to a gray screen with spinning circle and says searching for sources. I now have zero access to any of my media.
What models of Apple TV are that – are they on tvOS 14 or a previous OS version?
Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the app (or at least to manually sign-out from the app’s settings – just in case it somehow got stuck)?
2 of them are 4th gen and 1 is 4K. The 2 4th gen were already updated to tvOS14 and are having the issue. I originally noticed the issue on my 4K device. Uninstalled, reinstalled, same issue. I then updated the 4k to tvOS14 and still same issue. The app won’t even let me get to settings or login/logout. As soon as the app boots, it just goes to a gray screen searching for sources. I haven’t been able to login so it doesn’t even know where to search. None of my AppleTVs have any of my plex credentials.
Do you have some kind of firewall or network access restrictions in your router or home network that could prevent those Apple TVs from connecting to the net?
No firewalls set up. All 3 devices connect to Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, and my local mac mini with no problem. I have my plex server setup at my office which is outside of my home network, but the app works on my iPhone remotely, my MacBook remotely, my XboxOne remotely. and those devices are on my home network. i could see a firewall issue if it wouldn’t connect after logging in. But i can’t even do that.
As all 3 Apple TVs are impacted, it seems like an issue outside the Apple TVs themselves. Deleting the app from the Apple TV will also delete local data – therefore a new install should not be impacted by some previous hiccup.
At that point, the Plex client is not yet connecting to any of your servers (remote or local) – so that should not be an issue.
As for further troubleshooting… you could try moving one of the Apple TVs to a place outside your home office to verify it’s not related to your home network (e.g. to your office).
In addition you can have a look at some of those common blockers
