I was just looking at the banners for tomorrow's developer conference and this one looks very much as if it is referencing the Apple TV as well as wiggling apps. What do you think?

Whenever the question arises, Tim Cook usually gives the answer that it's definitely an area of interest for Apple without giving any details away. "As it stands, you have to be invited by Apple to develop, so the idea to open it up would be something that is pretty meaningful."There were rumors floating around in February that Apple would hold a special event in March to announce that it would begin to open up Apple TV to developers to create apps and games. The event never happened, but recently when speaking toAllThingsD, Tim Cook said that Apple would become more open and give third party developers more access to Apple's APIs in the future.Munster goes on to explain that Apple will unveil its own television soon and opening up Apple TV to developers would allow the creation of apps, which would be a good foundation for the upcoming launch of the television. A platform is only as good as the software that can run on it, and since TV is an area of interest for Apple, opening up Apple TV to developers would guarantee a plethora of apps when it finally launches its television.As with all Apple rumors take this one with a grain of salt. At least, the article shows I am not completely seeing things that aren't there. If it happens, would the work that has been put into Plexconnect be a head start on a Plexconnect app that is actually included with the ATV?

Nope.
There certainly will not be any new full TV hardware launching, the supply chain in Asia has too many leaks.
This is why Apple can keep the OS stuff secret but iPhone leaks happen all over.
I would love a full Apple TV to launch with the same software, you could have PlexConnect on it from day one ;)
Unfortunately i think it will be later in the year at the earliest.
It would be good if they would open up the ATV though, but they still need to solve the control issue.
I really hope Apple decides to allow app development for the AppleTV. I think it's fairly obvious that most people want a Jailbreak for the appleTv 3rd gen simply so they can use things like Plex / XBMC to view media on their ATV, without the need to have everything in iTunes, or in a format iTunes handles.
I know I can airplay the app I work on to my AppleTV, but it would be much better to have a version of the app that is specifically written for the ATV. it might not *work* as a reading app on a TV isn't exactly logical, however, when you have read-along content, for example Curious George goes Camping, then it becomes a rather good experience for kids.
If there were an Apple TV that ran apps, it's pretty easy to imagine what the screen would look like. Controlling apps is a different matter, though.
I don't know how the Curious George book works, but our toddler is a devoted fan of "The Monster at the End of this Book." Grover doesn't want you to turn the page, which you would do by tapping the lower-right corner of the iPad's screen. Grover ties up one page with ropes, which you loosen by tapping the knots. Tapping words cues Grover to read them again.
I'd love to see an Apple TV with app support. But it'll take more than a new section of the App Store to make it work.
It doesn't have to accommodate all types of apps. If it just opened up a bit more for media playing apps I would be happy.
Well, after the absence of any mention of the ATV at the developers conference it looks like full steam ahead for Plexconnect!
I did notice that one of the APIs announced for iOS7 is for game controllers. I would not be heartbroken if I could play FF Tactics on an Apple TV, using a PS3 controller. Maybe the Apple TV will get apps and a BYO controller scheme. Now that's what I call speculation.
