Hi,
I’m a newbie and I have been optimizing my mp4s for TV. I’ve noticed that both files are stored on my PC. Are both files necessary - they take up an lot of space? I have the mp4s stored in one folder and the PLEX versions in another.
Thanks
The Media Optimization feature does NOT provide a way to remove the original file.
If you remove the original the optimized version will go away as well.
**edited to add missing word
Where does the Media Optimization provide for a way to remove the original file? When I remove
the original file the optimized version goes away. What I want is a way to remove the original files and keep the optimized version for plex.
Would it be possible to take the Plex optimized version and treat it as an original and not re-optimize it, so that the file would be used without optimizing it, because it’s already optimized.
Thanks
Again, there is no built in function to remove the original and keep the optimized version.
But there is nothing stopping you from doing this yourself manually.
**Edit, sorry it was pointed out to me that my original post was missing the word not, so I can see how that was confusing.
Thanks. What do you think of my idea of replacing the original file with its optimized version, and then not re-optimizing? I’m using PLEX on Roku, and would PLEX have any transcoding to do, since the file it’s using has already been optimized. Sorry if this is simple minded, but I’m new to this.
