Are Subtitles Local, When Sourced Via Search?

I have some movies without subtitles. So help me understand how this works, when I “Search” via Plex and choose a ST URL does the ST data get saved local? If so, where is this stored? Also without this feature, what are the other ways to add ST? I assume, from my readings of the forum, that 1) Add ST via Subler or MKVTool; 2) store the file locally and tell Plex to use the local assets; 3) search via Plex Pass which stores the URL and knows how to find the ST and I will assume for the moment that this ST data never gets saved locally. Thought and clarifications?

Thanks,

R

An active downloaded sub does go in the database/bundle
until:

If, after selecting a subtitle from search, you later select None or a different existing subtitle, the subtitle that was downloaded from the search will be deleted
