Due to the nature of my work I might not have internet access for 2/3 months or more. With Netflix and Spotify any items make available for offline use will disappear after 30 days or so if you don’t go back online.
My question is does Plex have the same limitation? I don’t want my films and music to become unavailable without internet access.
I can manually download them to my devices if necessary but I’d prefer to keep them in Plex and Plexamp.
I’m not aware of any restrictions as the ones you described. Then again I haven’t been offline for several months.
Personally I’d go with downloading movies using the desktop app. This way you can still access them in the configured download folder (see support article above) even if Plex might get some hiccups after some time.
There’s an article on how to run Plex without an internet connection – this is mostly focusing on operating a Plex Media Server in an offline context (e.g. if you have access to a WLAN that’s not connected to the internet). Still it might give you some insights in potential caveats… or give you some inspiration for an own “offline server” for wherever you’re stuck for 2-3 months without internet connection.
Thanks for you reply Tom, yea even if I can’t access through Plex app then they’d be there in configured folder to play on VLC or whatever. I’d be interested to know if there is any limitation.
I guess I’d be using both with downloading for offline use Movies/Tv Shows on my laptop and Music through Mobile Sync for my phone.
