Arm64 Support for MacOS M1 Pro M1 Chips

Hi there, subscriber here.

Is there any plans to add ARM64 (Apple Silicon) / (Windows Arm) support?

I’ve noticed that plex drains more battery life vs other Arm applications on MacOS - would love to have a native desktop build.

Looking for some official whispers on possible plans.

Thanks!

From what i have read on the. forum, there will indeed will be a Native Plex app for Apple Silicon. There has been delays on a release due to the large amount of dependences a Plex Founder wrote in one discussion.

Plex Amp is available in a native app for apple Silicon, if you would like to check it out.

Right now Plex on macOS in painfully slow. I have M1 Pro and it feels like I’m running 8k Premiere instead of Plex.

Right!? I don’t get how it can be this bad. I have to switch to the web app because of how slow it is.

Have you tried the Plex client for iPadOS from the App Store? I’ve been using it on my Studio Ultra to hold me over until the proper native desktop client is released. It might not have the best UI for desktop use, but it works more or less natively and does direct-stream/direct-play of HEVC content.
