Plex Media Server apparently works fine under Rosetta on Apple Silicon Macs (currently the M1 chip):
However, is an ARM build planned? If so, when so? And would Plex Pass members get early access?
FWIW, I no longer need this, as I moved to using a Raspberry Pi 4 as my media server, which is affordable and works fine.

I did see it mentioned on the forum somewhere. Some of the transition looks very easy to do but some of the dependancies look anything but simple. I know one of the team did purchase an M1 for development purposes but not seen it on an official roadmap yet.
Iâm running PMS under R2 on a Mac mini so hoping for a native PMS as soon as possible. The Mac Plex client app runs really well under R2 so I hope that work on PMS is tackled first as that is a bit resource heavy under the translation / emulation.

Anyone know if thereâs been any update on this?
Really keen to have a Apple Silicon build (just the client) for my M1 Macbook!

Yes, support for ARM Apple M1 would be great.
Totally agree.
Any update on this?
Iâd tend to think based on Plexâs response here that they may have given up on heavy PMS support on Mac. Zero response from Plex since May 3.
Left it a week on public update channel to use 1.22.3.4523, but now getting prompted to update. is this still an issue on 1.23.2.4656? Thanks.
Based on their response here:
I canât help with MacOS. Donât own one and without the Apple hardware chips, nothing runs
Seems like theyâre saying they dont have a Mac to support PMS on⊠confusing to say the leastâŠ
Please do not take my statements out of context.
I was asked if I can help with a Mac (independent of the CPU)
I replied I could not because I donât own one nor do I have VM capability.
Please do not infer that has any bearing on Plexâs future plans. It was a direct statement about my ability to provide support.
If or when Engineering has a releasable product, they will announce it.
No disrespect intended. Disturbing when Plex says they donât have a way to test on Mac. Certainly reads like a commitment level statement on that platform.
Iâd much prefer Plex help us with our transcode issue instead of ignoring us. Weâve been ignored for over a month nowâŠ

I am getting continuous crashes lately. This is the start of the Plex Transcoder crash report:

Ok folks,
Iâm not going to discuss HOW I did it but suffice it to say I have a âfunctionalâ VM at this point.
How functional you ask? Not very.
x86_64
8GB Memory
Software transcoding only;
No HW on anything â meaning no high bit rate HEVC. Iâm stuck with 5-10 Mbps only.
limited by what can be pulled in over the VM network link (1 Gbps)
Advance warning:
I know Unix (my first *nix OS back in 1982)
I donât know MacOS
I will try but guarantee nothing; best I can do.
Will this get the job done?
Any update on M1 versions of Plex server?
There is nothing to report.
If & when Engineering decides to, it will be announced.
