Artist and Featuring Artists view have changed in Plexamp

Server Version#: 1.27.0.5849 via Docker
Player Version#:

I’ll try to explain this as best as possible but the handling of the featuring artists have seemed to change. For tracks that contain featuring artists, I have them tagged under the Contributing Artists in Windows and this is maintained in the Media Monkey application. With this new docker server version 1.27.0.5849, it is now adding the Artist and Featuring Artist to the Artist title in plex.tv and plexamp. I noticed that this is different on my backup synology server as I haven’t updated to the newest plex server version yet, it is still on version 1.26.0.5715. Is there a way to change it to the old way where it only showed the artist in the artist field or will I have to roll back a version? Or can is there a way to address the issue where the spacing could be corrected where an additional space can be added after the semicolon as the current formatting is incorrect. I’m guessing this is a new scanning or view feature with the new version that I am hoping the Plex app would allow me to change. The only way I currently see to change this is to manually edit the artist field for each featuring artist track in the plex web app.

The views above also reflect the same in the plex web app. I know this is a minuscule issue but just wondering if there’s a way to correct it without retagging my music library.

Yep, something has indeed changed. I assume it has to do with the recent “modernized metadata matching”, but since I have set Plex to prefer my local music metadata (and didn’t change any of those settings) I don’t actually want this.

I first noticed it after adding this album by Buddy Rich. Both the ‘album artist’ and ‘artist’ fields are set to his name only, but for some reason Plex now lists all the collaborators (which are not in my own metadata) for each track too.

The only way to undo this is by unmatching the album.

I love Plex(amp) but I would really hate it if the settings to prefer local metadata no longer have any effect.

Anyone else experiencing this?

@Weirdomusic I’m having the same issue. I’m really ■■■■ about how my tracks are tagged and a lot of my music suddenly had featuring artists in the artists field. My metadata tagger is set to explicitly remove the featuring artist from the artist field and put that info in the title of the track.

Before I decided to check the forum, I went through a half of my library in the Plex web UI and removed the featuring artist from the artist field. So tedious.

Also, I don’t know if this is related, but a lot of the albums were not showing album art any longer in Plex. Although I could verify that they had album art embedded in the files, it just refused to show in Plex or Plexamp.

Hope this gets fixed soon. I imported a few albums this morning and they immediately showed featuring artist in title even though it’s not that way in the metadata. Though my settings in Plex are set to prefer local metadata, it seems Plex doesn’t honour that setting.

It does look like unmatching the album reverts back to local metadata though.

Yes, it looks like unmatching is the only solution at the moment. Let’s hope the Plex devs will look at this.
