When I pick an Artist radio for a specific artist I seem to be getting the exact same list of songs each time in the same order. I would expect the list of songs to change each time? Also no way I can see to shuffle the songs.
This has only ever happened to me when I didnāt have enough similar music to create a radio playlist.
Additionally to the above, you might also want to experiment with the Plexamp preference
Playback > Radio > Degrees of separation
as well as the hidden server preference
RadioDaysSinceLastPlayed
I just attempted to play an artist radio based on Radiohead ā with unlimited degrees of separation and this is what I got:
Surely something else in my library would qualify other than Coldplay!
Also, on a couple of other attempts today, it seems like it only will play songs from a specific album from an artist that has matched.
Edit: It seems the only similar artist to Radiohead in my library is Coldplay. Apparently nothing else is similar to Coldplay? That may explain the above result, but the only one album from an artist being used is still odd. Iāll keep playing with things.
Plexamp and almost all of those Stations rely on proper metadata.
Which in turn are only available if your music library
- is using
Plex Music
both as Agent and Scanner - has been Refreshed within the last two months or so
- has not disabled
Popular Tracks
After verifying the above, āRefresh Metadataā of the artist Radiohead.
Depending on the number of albums, let it sit for several minutes afterwards.
Then open the āEditā dialog of Radiohead and look at the tab āTagsā - āSimilar Artistsā.
How many of the artists listed in there, do you have as AlbumArtists in your music library?
And how many Related Artists do have those artists in turn? Refresh them as well and see if that changes anything.
I think this turned out to be the problem here. The only artist related to Radiohead in my library is Coldplay and I apparently have no other artists related to Coldplay ā somehow⦠I did refresh metadata, but nothing changed. As long as I know why itās doing it, Iām okay with it.
But yesterday was a little odd when it kept choosing tracks for a related artist from only one of their albums and none of the others. Actually, it appeared to be doing that for more than one artists.
If I keep noticing that last bit, Iāll open a thread, but it does appear to be working as advertised when there are several related artists.
Something is broken. I have an artist station based on the Beatles playing. Iām getting good artist variety, but itās as if Plex is only interested in playing songs from a single artist album. I have 13 albums by the Beatles, yet Iām only getting songs from Yellow Submarine. I have 15 albums by Pink Floyd, but Iām only getting songs from Wish You Were Here. I have 42 Bob Dylan albums (best Christmas gift ever, by the way), but only songs from the album World Gone Wrong are getting played! That was the same for yesterday. What in the world is going on?
Verify that the albums are matched.
Look at the contents of the guid
(track), parentGuid
(album), and grandParentGuid
(artist) properties from the Plex XML info.
In the ideal case, they should begin with plex://
At least āartistā should have them.
If they are starting with mbid
instead, you definitely need to āRefresh Metadataā on the relevant artists and in extreme cases perform āFix Matchā on the album level.
Everything looks good after checking a few random albums. I had just recreated this library in the past month or so, so everything should be good as far as the agent changes and metadata.
Check those albums in particular, which Plex chose to ignore.
Yep, thatās what I did.
Actually I see something similar.
Will report it to the devs.
For how long did you follow this radio?
I saw it sticking to one album for about 6 tracks, then progressing to another one for 3 tracks, then eventually switching to a different one.
Yesterday I played the station for probably a little over an hour. This morning it was about an hour. I can listen longer and report those results as well.
You can jump quickly through the list by opening the play queue and click play on the last item. Which causes the playqueue to get extended by a few tracks.
You then then click again on the (now) last track etc. pp.
Duh. Silly me.
Iām seeing the same thing. So, it sticks to the same albums for about 5 or so tracks, and then moves on to a different album, but then only plays tracks from it as well before moving on again after a few.
Still having issues here. Seems to be server related as I see the same behavior regardless of client.
Artist radio appears to be pre determined. I tried a few bands and I get the same list of songs the first time I click artist radio for any of them. The list of songs seems random and appropriate based on the artist but it is the same list every time. Would like it to be a random list.
I stopped trying to use artist radio. I havenāt paid attention to the specific songs, but it always starts with the same albums and will will only move on to a different album after 3-5 songs from that album are played.
Definitely a server issue because I get the same behavior on Android, Roku, Plex Web and Plexamp
I have been fighting with this issue also since Plexamp was introduced. I get the same songs over and over again. I have been adding star ratings to songs constantly. Itās like Plexamp sees one album and wants to keep playing it over and over again. For example I have 2 QueensrĆæche albums on my server. It has consistently been stepping through the songs on Operation: Mindcrime and has never played anything from the other album.
I have consistently 1 starred tracks and the next time around it plays the next track on the album.
